Georgia DUers: "An Inconvenient Truth" opens in Atlanta this Friday!
Any thoughts about getting a group together to see it? I checked the movie times on MSN, and it looks like it's playing at the Tara Theater (on two screens!!!) at 1:00, 1:45, 4:00, 4:45, 7:00, 7:30, 10:00, and 10:30. I would prefer a showing 7:00 or after, but I'm willing to bend to the will of the group.

Hey, Ruby Duby, I know you've already seen it. Wanna go again? :)

I think this could be a great opportunity for some of us to meet each other and to see an important and (hopefully) influential film. I've never met anther DUer in person (as far as I know), and would love to meet some of you.

So who's in?

10. I doubt it will be in Kennesaw
I'm gonna go to the 10:00 or 10:30 after my evening swim. It's important that we go in support of reality.

5. I'd like to go
I've got a bicycle race this coming weekend but would love to go with some DUer's. My g/f, who doesn't post here, is as political as I am so I can bring at least 1 friend.

Let me know of a time and I'll see if I can work it out.

I live in the Atlanta area and I wasn't sure the film would be playing anywhere around here. :bounce: :applause: :woohoo:
I'll try to go see it soon, and check back here to see who might be going when, even though I can tend to be rather shy (really).

9. Movie time!
OK guys, tomorrow is the big night! Whaddya say about the 7:30pm showing? Whoever is interested in going, I'll plan to be in front of the Tara Theater (at the corner of Lavista and Cheshire Bridge) at 7:00pm. You can see a picture of me in my journal to see what I look like, and I'll plan on wearing an orange t-shirt (and jeans, probably) to help me stand out.

Let's go see this movie! I hope to see you all then!

14. Hi Janice325!
I got your email. Sorry I haven't responded--I've had an insanely busy weekend and this is the first time I been on DU since Friday afternoon. I hope your girlfriend is recovering well from her dental work and that you're feeling better as well. Rotator cuff injury--ouch!!! x(

Actually, there were only two of us there (as far as I know). I was outside the theater around 7:10pm when I heard that the 7:30pm showing had sold out, so at that point I stopped waiting for anyone else that responded to this thread (sorry Ammonium!). I mean the place was packed! I'm so glad that there was such a good turnout! I was at the concession stand talking with an older couple that were there to see a different film, and I convinced them to hang around and catch the 10:00pm show! Debau2005 was the only DUer to join me for the movie, but we truly enjoyed the film despite our small numbers.

Outside the theater before the film there were two electric cars, and their owners were there to talk about them and to hand out literature. There were also several information booths inside the theater from different local liberal and environmentalist groups (Sierra Club, Georgia for Democracy, Southern Environmental Law Center, etc.). All of them had interesting displays and literature to help viewers of the film become more aware and involved in the process of stopping global warming.

"An Inconvenient Truth" was just incredible. I just don't have the words to tell you how much I enjoyed it. I've always had so much love and admiration for Al Gore, and seeing this film Friday night just reminded me of how wise and how much of a true visionary he is. The science that he presented was just astounding, and it made me realize that the problem of global warming is much worse than even I had realized. And Al did a great job of injecting humor into his presentation at the appropriate points. The film was largely scientific and not too political, although there was some brief film footage of the 2000 Presidential election. You should have heard the boos and hisses that you-know-who received from the crowd! We were in great company! :P

"An Inconvenient Truth" ended with a song by Melissa Etheridge having the same title. I've been a huge fan of hers for years (I've seen her in concert twice and she ROCKS!!!), and I think her magnificent voice and talents helped to perfectly conclude this film. Thank you Melissa!

Above all, this film made me realize that I don't know nearly as much about this problem as I should, and that I have a moral obligation to make myself more educated. I left the theater very energized with ideas of changes that I can make in my day-to-day life so that I can begin to become part of the solution. It's not enough to just be knowledgeable--you also have to put the knowledge you have into action! What I can do may not make that much of a difference, but every little bit helps, and I believe that now more than ever!

I cannot recommend this film highly enough. If you have not seen it yet, get out and see it soon! And take some friends with you!

And to Debau2005--thank you so much for coming out and watching this movie with me! Having your company made the film that much more enjoyable to me. I enjoyed meeting you and talking with you, and I hope we get a chance to meet up again soon!

Now Janice, don't you wish you had come? ;)

15. I'm glad you got to see the film and that it's doing well.
I was feeling too tired and sorry for myself to have gone. I had to go out and get dinner for gf's eightynine year old father at 8:15pm that night, having forgotten I'd mentioned I'd do so much earlier in the day. That's even though I'd told gf around 4:30 that I was too tired to do anything else for them. (I'd run several errands for both of them earlier in the day. Plus, I'm just starting to drive again a month after the rotator cuff surgery. I can't drive my truck's standard, but my gf's automatic, even though I have to shift the thing to the right of the stearing column with my left hand. Oy.)
Sorry for the rambling. I hope more DU'ers get to see the film (myself included). I need to be energized and hope that RealPresident Gore might give it a shot again in 2008.
Thanks, racaulk! :hi:

16. HEY!
I had a great time. The movie is stunning! I plan on seeing it again, there is so much information to take in. I was very impressed with the scientific data and how it was presented in an easy to understand to format.

It has really gotten me going. I have already bought new light bulbs, like the ones displayed out front. I am moving into my first home in two weeks, and will change the bulbs first. We need to show people that even small steps are a step in the right direction!

I had several people ask me over the weekend what I thought about the movie and that they were interested in seeing it. These were people that I didn't even expect to know that the movie existed, so I was impressed with their honest questions. I think this speaks to how well Al Gore has been talking up this movie.

Racaulk, thanks for the hospitality. We should all try to meet as often as can. We should plan a picnic in the fall, when it is a tad cooler, and all get to know each other. Maybe Ruby Duby can introduce us to her newest member by then!

If you haven't seen this movie, you must see it! For those of you that live in the Metro Atlanta area, go ahead and make the drive, it is well worth it. And no the drive is not that bad, when it is for a good cause! :hi:
