Our view: Hung out to dry, again

Floridians can't get a break as two moves in Congress to ease the insurance crisis head toward defeat

Space Coast residents know our lawmakers in Tallahassee don't give a hoot about the property insurance crisis.

Skyrocketing premiums and tens of thousands of dumped polices continue to prove the insurance companies -- not the legislators in their hip pockets -- are calling the shots.

Well, if you were hoping that Congress might bring some sanity to this asylum, forget it.

That's because two sensible moves to address the situation in Florida and throughout the Southeast are gone with the wind.

1. I remember when lowering insurance rates was a hot button item

in every candidate's mantra. But then came the elections and they forgot all about it. That shows how full of crap they are. Now they don't want to bite the hand that feeds them, the insurance lobbies. Damn thieves and liars.

2. Not a one of them gives a shit that my insurance went up 60% last year,
or that it went up 40% the year before. Three years ago we paid about $1300 for homeowners and windstorm - now it's nearly $3200.

And it's not like you can just run out and get a policy with another company either. If you can even get coverage, you're stuck with that company until they decide to drop you.
