Man Tried To Rape Radio Host While On Air
Man Tried To Rape Radio Host While On Air

PINE HILLS, Fla. -- A person listening to a local Christian radio station called the Orange County Sheriff's Office Monday morning after hearing threats made against the radio host live on air.

The Sheriff's Office said it received the call just before 6 a.m. When deputies arrived, the radio host told them she was live on the radio when a man entered the studio and exposed himself while making verbal threats.

Deputies said she told them the man tried to rape her, but she was able to lure him outside the building and she locked herself in her car.

Deputies said the man went back in the building, stole items from the host's purse and left on foot.

1. Howard Stern has fallen WAY behind the curve in recent years...

2. I quit listening to Stern after the Air Florida ticket agent incident.
He called Air Florida (on the air) and asked how much a ticket to the 14th St. bridge would be. The poor woman broke down in tears. That was in the very early 80's, but I wouldn't listen to him again after that.

3. Same here
I was never a big fan, but I would tune in occassionally back when he was at DC101. I stopped listening altogether after the Air Florida stunt.

10. After he left DC101, didn't he move to NY and sort of bomb?
I heard it was because he wasn't crass enough for the audience. I wonder if his giggle-side-kick Robbin Quivers went with him.

11. No, he moved to NY, and then Philly, then LA

His show kept getting bigger as he added more cities. He eventually went to satellite to get away from FCC issues and has transformed into one of the most followed pop culture and political commentators there is. He's also a major Democratic ally.

14. I wasn't really all that interested at the time (or even now for that matter) - just what I heard.

20. If you call being number one in the ratings for about 20 straight years "bombing"
.....as well as L.A., Philly and Boston......he blew up real good.

15. I don't think that really happened
My understanding was that it was a fake call. Poor taste (hey, this is Howard Stern we're talking about) but not as bad as if it was a real call.

See header "Responses in the news media"

"One day after the accident, Howard Stern pretended to call Air Florida during his radio show on WWDC-FM and asked if the 14th Street Bridge would be a "permanent stop". Stern later stated that he was ridiculing the airline for allowing such an error to occur.<11>"

18. just a dumb joke
I was trying to say that Stern's biggest shock antics don't come close to the weirdness of this story...

21. Howard has a couple of guys who call bothering local radio stations "Swap Shop" shows
For some reason, most of them seem to be Christian. I thought that's where he was going with this. But I knew someone would have to go on and on making sure it was known we should all hate Howard.

12. Before Stern, I listened to a Baltimore AM DJ - Johnny Walker?
He had some good routines.

"Dolly Parton is coming out with a picture album - they had to make it a double-album set."

"I think someone's trying to kill me. They gave me a Ford Pinto with Firestone 500 tires." (mid 70's references).

4. Your comments are irrational...
This has nothing to do with Howard Stern other than revealing your preoccupation with him. He never forced himself upon any woman and has always condemned violence against women.
