McCain's non-sequitur of the day

I read the headlines in the Orlando Sentinel today. So McCain will officially support NASA and the Everglades? Huh? This is the type of disjointed thinking that is going thru this man's head.

Okay, the basic point is that environmental issues don't mix with the NASA issue, as least since NASA was responsible for the extinction of the Dusky Seaside Sparrow.

Fact: While McCain was busy dropping bombs on the swamps and wetlands of Vietnam, to eliminate those pesky Viet Cong guerrillas, NASA was busy destroying the swamps and wetlands near the Merritt Island nature refuge so it could curtail the number of those pesky Florida mosquitos. This was done over the express objections of environmentalist at the time, who feared that such actions would be detrimental to the rare Dusky Seaside Sparrow and other native species which would lose their habitat. This is exactly what happened. Merritt Island's dusky seaside sparrow became a casualty when the cord-grass habitat was flooded out for mosquito control.
The dusky seaside sparrow was declared extinct in December, 1990.

Roughly one square mile of Florida wetlands, scrub and forest vanishes under roofs, pavement and other development every three days.

Someone tell McCain that he can't serve two masters. And you can't fool the real Floridians who have witness the nonstop, merciless destruction of our native species over the decades.
