Email I got:

Dear Friend:

By now you've probably heard the great news: a new public opinion poll -- conducted by Research 2000 -- shows Jim trailing Rob Simmons by just 2 points. That's right, just 2 points. (A news story about the poll is included at the end of this email).

For those of us who know Jim well, this is really no surprise. He has worked hard to make the case that the people of the 2nd Congressional District are tired of a Congressman in Rob Simmons who votes every time with George W. Bush on his failed policies. Whether it's preventing seniors from having access to affordable prescription drugs, or tax cuts for millionaires at the expense of the middle class, or the outsourcing of good American jobs, or the under-funding of education reforms, or a miserably inept foreign policy - on each of these issues, Rob Simmons does exactly what George W. Bush wants him to do. And that's a shame - because that's NOT what the people of Connecticut want, or need.

Every day, Jim says the same thing: "people want change " - and he's right. Jim knows that people want affordable prescription drugs, good-paying jobs, a fair tax policy, an education reform package that is fully funded, and a foreign policy that makes sense. And that's why Jim wants to go to Congress - so that he can fight for the people of the 2nd Congressional District on those issues, and a host of others as well.

A poll out at the very beginning of the week showed Jim down by 8 points - this one shows him down by just 2. Why the change? Three reasons. First, more and more people are understanding every day that the Bush-Simmons Team has hurt Connecticut with its failed polices. Second, Jim is making a strong case every day for his vision - which stands in stark contrast to the Bush-Simmons vision. Third, the unprecedented level of personal and vicious attacks Rob Simmons and his Republican allies are launching against Jim, his wife and their three little boys are backfiring. How bad is it? We are getting phone calls at our headquarters from REPUBLICANS who are telling us that Simmons' vicious, personal attacks on Jim have made them change their mind - and they're now supporting Jim.

It is shameful that an incumbent Congressman would stoop to such a level in his desperation to hang on to his job - if he'd been as desperate to hang on to jobs for Connecticut residents as he apparently is to hold onto his own job, perhaps Connecticut would not have lost 57,000 jobs on his watch!

Here's the bottom line: Jim is in the fight of his life, and he needs your help. He's not fighting for himself, he's fighting for you. As he says to me every day, "I can take whatever they throw at me - but when they go after my wife and three little boys it's just plain wrong."

Jim's right.

And we need to fight back! Not their way -- not with lies, distortions and personal attacks. But by continuing to make the case that a vote for Rob Simmons is a vote for George W. Bush. A vote for Rob Simmons is a vote for two more years of failed policies, while a vote for Jim Sullivan is a vote for change. The choice is, at the same time, that simple and that clear.

So, please, today, visit our website to make a donations ( www.sullivanforcongress.com ), or write a check and mail it to our headquarters. And please, be as generous as you can.

Jim is in the fight of his life, and he needs your help. Please.

Thank you, as always, for everything you've done and for what you will be doing over the course of the next 8 days.

Let's go get 'em!

2. Please, please let Sullivan win! Simmons is an idiot!!
I am lucky enough to have John Larson here in CT -- I am sure he would love another Dem. Now if we could just get rid of Nancy Johnson.

3. just heard that, too
Great news. I'm going to donate to Sullivan tomorrow.

He's already had a lot of heavy hitters in town for him - Ted Kennedy, Howard Dean and Nancy Pelosi (twice)
