With Rell at “only” 50% in the latest poll, do you think some of the state’s higher profile Dems are now gnashing their teeth and regretting that they did not challenge Rell?

Unfortunately, DeStefano only has 28% of the vote. This is the closest the gap has been since the race started, and Rell’s poor debate performance dropped her from 56-50%, but DeStefano did not get any of that support, staying at 28%.

If a Dick Blumenthal had run, I bet it would be close to a dead heat.

1. Unfortunately,
Blumenthal has no guts.

He's a wonderful Attorney General, but he won't stick his neck out running for office.

7. I have heard for several years that Dick wants to be a judge
Dick Blumenthal has stuck his neck out for Planned Parenthood numerous times. He has been a relentless champion for a woman's right to choose. I like him a LOT!

2. Blumenthal maybe, but it seems every single time there's a
race his name gets bantered around and around and he plays coy til the last minute and then says no. So I think he loves the attention, but it smart enough not to want the job itself.

Dodd is aiming at President, so I think he's content to sit tight right now.

Blumenthal/Rell would have been an interesting race!

3. The one I think should have run for gov.

is the moron who can't figure out that CT Democrats are never going to forgive him and that his current mess means his career is functionally over, regardless what happens Nov. 7th. He'd have beat Rell easily.

Instead, Lieberman sold his seat long-term just for a chance at another 6 years. He has no chance to win in 2012 if he wins this time: the (D) nomination is shot if he costs us a sweep in the US House that I think was almost forgone if he stayed out (after that, he'll be basically unwelcome in the Democratic party locally if not nationally), he won't win another re-election as an (I) and I fear that he'll face a no-longer-eligible-to-run-for-governor Rell from the (R) if she wins the gubernatorial race this time.

I hope someone points out to him that he's the strongest Republican in CT right-now whether he wants to be or not. He could have delivered the entire state to the Democratic Party (and set himself up for a cabinet position in 2008) and all he had to do was not-petition-onto-the-ballot. It's like the title of the Howard Zinn biopic documentary a few years back: "You can't be neutral on a moving train."

Moron^3.

4. I wrote Lieberman asking him to run for governor
never got a response on that one.

I think I've posted on here a few times, too.
His neo-con foreign policy views would not really affect things on a state level, and I'm guessing on social issues he's probably fairly close to Rell.

6. Sorry, did a quick look
And could not find it.

I just remember the report saying that after the first debate, it went from 56-28 Rell to 50-28 Rell.

Supposedly, DeStefano's internals are improving...

The Manchester paper - normally pretty progressive - just ripped DeStefano today, however.
