Why is your new governor so popular? (Jodi Rell)
Quinnipiac came out today with a poll giving Jodi Rell a 74% approval and 4% disapproval rating. Why is she so popular?

They also say that she may be helping Bush! the latest poll on the presidential race in Connecticut gives Kerry only a seven-point lead 45-38 with 6% for Nader. In June they say Kerry led by 18-points.

1. She is?
She is new, nobody really knows her, and she has done absolutely nothing so far. Whats not to like?

She hasn't earned any approval, she benefits from not being Rowland.

2. She's not Rowland.
And about 10 seconds after being sworn in she made clear she was not part of Rowland's "team." I think that after everything Rowland did she seems great in comparison, although I can't think of anything she has done in particular that has impressed me or anyone. Its just that she is not a crook. Aside from Rowland we also had the scandals of two big city mayors--Ganin of Bridgeport (D) and the perv Giordano of Waterbury (R). I really don't understand why anyone here would connect her to Bush. State politics is so different from National politics. Why anyone would think of voting for Bush because they like her is beyond me. While I am relieved that Rowland is out of office and she has not given me any reason to dislike her, I certainly do not feel like voting for Bush because she is my Gov. now. I hope these people wake up.

3. Also
Not long after she was sworn in, the state got the good news that it looks like we may have a $200-$220 million surplus. While it may have been mainly the work of the Dems in the state legislature, the sitting governor usually gets credit for the good & the bad in the state economy.
