I went to Walgreen's tonight in Alameda
it's the last time ever!

it's bad enough that the national HQ is allowing pharmacists to put their personal beliefs ahead of the needs of the customers but my local Walgreen's had this bookstand close to the register with all these fundie Christian books for sale.

I stopped to skim a few of the titles--one was by Shirley Dobson. I'm calling tomorrow and getting the name of the manager of the store and writing them a very nice letter telling them that they're going to lose my business. I have four scripts with them and my co-pays are like $70 a month. I have no clue to what my insurance pays for the scripts but I'm sure it's close it's several hundred dollars.

I'll be sure to mention that as well.

I know that there are a few people from my area on DU. It's the Walgreens in the Southshore Shopping Center.

3. *sigh*
Interesting. I'll have to go to my local Walgreens and check it out. Whatever happened to the first amendment?

6. I have no problem with the first amendment
but if a store, with no apparent religious ties, starts pushing fundie Christian materials, then I do have a problem

I guess it's to balance out the trash tabloids they sell.

But of course, you'll find people buying the 101 Ways to Get to Heaven along with the newest National Enquirer with Brad and Angie and Jessica and Nick

9. He has some prescriptions so I'll check to make sure they are not
filled there. I know they have shopped there in the past. I do go to Walgreens for one reason. Each month they have a few items that are like 4.99 and a 4.99 rebate so they end up being free. Otherwise I spend not a dime there.

and it's hard for me not to go there a few times a week when I'm over that way, but you have to say enough

11. That Walgreens is always a last resort for me...
I've always hated it... Feels totally trashy... and you've just given me another reason to hate it! At least they're going to build a new Walgreens when they finally improve South Shore... Maybe there will be new management as well...

I usually just go to Longs when I can, or sometimes stop at the Walgreens near the tunnel...

I don't think there's a Rite-Aid any more...

12. And where I am at (Minneapolis) I have more choices than
Alameda that are closer to my home. So it makes it easier to avoid Walgreens though they seem to be on about every twentieth block in this city. I can walk or bike to a lot of stores and alternatives. From what I know of Alameda it seems like there are fewer choices and farther to go for shopping. At least no Wal Mart to deal with in town.

13. Thanks for the tip!
I'll avoid that one, and all of them. (I go to that one sometimes after a trip to Trader Joes). Wish Oakland had a TJ's!

14. Thanks, dwickham
I've noticed and been troubled by similar racks in other retail stores, but hadn't stopped to think maybe I could do something about them!

I'd prefer to suggest a balanced presentation rather than ask that a particular view be changed out. What could be added here? Added to the fundie display piece or placed next to it?

15. I think a good book burning in the parking lot
would do wonders for this crap but short of that, I don't think that they should be carrying these books

in our wonderful capitalist system <tongue in cheek> companies make decisions based on economics and if they know that they're going to lose money and customers by carrying a certain product because people don't want them to carry it, then they won't carry it

16. It's too easy
to say one book or another shouldn't be carried. I'd prefer a rack of Beacon Press publications along side this stuff.
