This is a copy of an email I received from arnie's army today. I've been getting emails from * them* consistently, to which I reply, usually with obscenities. I could get myself 'off' the list, but I want to know what's he's doing.
The previous emails upset me, but this one infuriated me. I'm a recently retired teacher and it's been entirely too many years that Ca Teachers have to fight for kids, schools and their jobs.
Here it is:
Following is an open letter to Barbara Kerr, President of the California Teachers Association (CTA) from the Governor's Coalition For Education Reform. The CTA is seeking to tax California's teachers $180 each to fund a $54 million campaign against Governor Schwarzenegger's reforms and maintain the status quo.

GOVERNOR SCHWARZENEGGER'S COALITION FOR EDUCATION REFORM
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To Barbara Kerr, President of the California Teachers Association:
As classroom teachers across California, we were shocked to read in the newspaper that you and the leadership of the California Teachers Association are aggressively seeking to tax every member $180 to fund a $54 million campaign against Governor Schwarzenegger’s education reform proposals. If approved, regardless of their personal opinion, all 335,000 members of the union will be forced to pay. That is unfair. This $54 million teachers tax is nothing more than a partisan attack designed to protect the status quo, and prevent needed classroom reforms. For example, according to a recent statewide Field Poll, 60 percent of Californians support rewarding teachers based on performance, not seniority. Teachers who agree with the people and who support the Governor’s pro-teacher school improvement agenda would have no choice but to pay for attacks which are false, misleading and contrary to public opinion. That is arrogant. Moreover, you personally claimed that this $54 million teacher tax is not mandatory, but you know that is not true. As educators, we cannot be a member of the Teachers Union, vote on our employment contract and receive real union representation without funding the union’s political agenda. Union rules dictate that if teachers disagree with your politics, they must sacrifice liability coverage and legal protection – we are forced to pay political dues to protect basic employee rights. That is insulting. We are fully supportive of teachers having a political voice, and encourage everyone to exercise their free speech rights. However, the teachers union should abide by the same rules as other organizations, raising money from those who support their policies. As teachers who support Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s non-partisan, pro-student education reform agenda, we challenge you to hold your union to the same high standards expected of the students we serve: raise voluntary political contributions from teachers instead of forcing an unprecedented and burdensome tax upon them without regard for their employment rights and personal opinions.
Teaching is not a Democratic or Republican profession. It is a nonpartisan commitment to students and their future. It is time for the teachers union to put the kids first and abandon the $54 million teacher tax.
Sincerely, ~~~~~~~~~
