Executive Director Dana Cody said this morning the foundation began contributing money to Schiavo's parents Bob and Mary Schindler about four years ago when the Schindlers contacted the foundation when they had exhausted all their financial resources.
Schiavo, who suffered debilitating brain damage in 1990 when her heart stopped, is reportedly near death in a Florida hospital. Her parents' attorneys have appealed to Congress and Florida and federal courts to get their daughter's feeding tube reinserted. It was disconnected one week ago.
