7. Thank you, Gaines
Kaiser invented the term Health Maintenance Organization, and it meant what it said. Then the for-profit insurance companies got in on the act and changed HMO to mean profit generating organization or Cash Cow.

My husband is in Kaiser Oakland right now. He's had multiple procedures, many doctors, great nursing care, and all of that is probably going to cost us $5. A five with no zeros.

Kaiser's not perfect. (I know. I work in the medical legal office and hear all the horror stories.) But it's so far ahead of the rest it isn't in the same ball park.

BTW, after Kaiser did the right thing, the other companies were shamed into doing the right thing, too.

9. Because UNIONS are Kaiser's bread & butter
As a retired UNION const. supervisor, I'm here to tell you that every Kaiser construction project specifies that only UNION labor wil be used. I know, I worked on several Kaiser jobs.
Think about it: If no one has medical benenfits @ their work place, where does that leave Kaiser?

3. I have them for my health insurance.
I'm definately keeping them now (its time for my company to offer different plans to those who might want to change them. Glad I'm keeping them!)

5. My sister works for them...
Founded by a Union shop (Kaiser Shipbuilding) to cover Union workers (steel and shipbuilding), they might be the best HMO there is.

A third health care provider has agreed to cover San Francisco workers while they are locked out of their jobs at hotels in the city.
PacifiCare Health Systems has agreed to extend coverage to 750 workers and their families, about 1,600 people, for 60 days after their benefits are terminated on Dec. 1, UNITE HERE Local 2 President Mike Casey reports.

PacifiCare is the third health care provider, after Kaiser Permanente and Chinese Community Health Plan (CCHP), to ensure coverage for the striking workers whose benefits would have run out on Dec. 1 because of the lockout.

8. A tale of redemption....... When I met Mrs Ernesto
She just knew UNIONS were evil: She was a preacher's kid that was possessed by the amway cult..... Many years later, she's a card waving UNION Kaiser RN that hates repugs and will drive only American made cars.
IMHO, her soul has been saved. I guess that's why I let her hang around. (she provides Great medical coverage to)
