We're looking for a few good stoners....
Thought I'd repost this here in the Ca forum. If you are interested, we could really use a few new people, just let me know!)

5/7/10
-Rocky

That’s right. Things are starting to get pretty busy around here, so we’ve decided to find a few interns to boss around. Are you a go getter? Do you make friends easily and influence people? Do you have a winning smile? Are you a hard worker?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, you might not be for us.

We’re looking for people that know how to party, and know how to type. Really, it’s not that hard. At Central Valley Cannabis we are always at a party, and we want you to be a party guest.

In the coming months CVC will be registering voters, gathering signatures to keep safe and legal medical cannabis in Stockton and the surrounding San Joaquin County, attending the WHEE Fest in Red Bluff and the High Times Cannabis Cup in San Francisco. Want to hang out?

What do you get besides all the fun of hanging out with the CVC crew? Passes, many times VIP, to some of the best and most popular Cannabis events in California, t-shirts, can’t eat ‘em, but you can wear ‘em, stickers, and more!

How much does it pay? ZERO. NONE. NADA. NIL. But you will have a good time, and could be first in line when CVC actually hires a paid staff.

the rest

1. I'm SO tired of the "you'll be first in line when we DO hire someone" bit
face it, once you've worked for free somewhere, they won't hire you. It's only about making connections and getting into places. Why don't they just ask for volunteers instead of trying to be so cute about it?

Making someone work for free is ILLEGAL. Technically, Intern means someone who's getting school credit, not free labor. And the ads where they say they want an "intern" or "entry level" and then give a long list of the qualifications (software, technical, etc) are just so wrong.

For the record, I all for legalizing medical and recreational MJ. But this ad is just wrong.

2. Not a ad.
It's actually pretty clear. I've been working on this cause for years without a dime of remuneration. No one of the 6 activists that have put this site together has made any money, in fact, we're all still losing money.

This is a post on our site, I made it very clear what we are looking for and a lot of free stuff and a lot of fun goes along with it.

So sorry you took offense at an obvious attempt to organize for a political movement in California.

By the way, I worked in radio for like 9 years, and very few interns were there for any school credit at all. The same is true for the Cannabis industry.

As far as paying people goes? We are on target to have a full time paid staff within six months. There are two industries in Ca that make money still, Weed, and Movies. We're not actors, producers, writers or directors.

Have a nice day.

4. Why not call them volunteers instead of interns?
"intern" implies they are learning job skills and will be able to use those skills in future employment. What you are offering is an opportunity to advance a cause and have some fun. That's what your web states. And you say that you haven't made any money. All the more reason to call them what they are: volunteers.

If you want to make this a legitimate political organizing body that people will respect and support, treat it as such. Not as a party for the interns.

I want legalized MJ in the State of CA. I want this issue to be taken seriously.

So interns were taken advantage of in the radio industry...makes it ok?

I did not "take offense at an obvious attempt to organize for a political movement in California." I don't offend quite that easily.

5. We were at the a street fair today where we registered 10 people to vote.
I'll register 10 more tomorrow. Next weekend we have interns, volunteers or whatever you want to call them at 4 different locations.

We're getting the job done in Ca in the Cannabis Industry just like we have for the last 30 years.

Now have a nice day.

6. I thought your appeal for volunteers was PERFECTLY clear
Edited on Sat May-08-10 10:58 PM by pinboy3niner
The final thought--and it was the final thought--seemed a fair and honest statement, not a come-on to lure free "workers."

Good luck with your campaign. I'm not a stoner, but I believe we have to solve the horrendous problems created by criminalization and the "War on Drugs". I will be voting in CA . . .

Ed. to add: Perhaps you could have noted that this opportunity is a potential GATEWAY to future employment. :)

7. Thank you.
The campaign is a serious one, life is serious, but I've always had fun with it.

There are people in prison right now, tonight, in the state of Ca for doing nothing more than smoking a joint.

Thanks so much for the good words.

We know we're doing good work, and we're having fun doing it.

3. best of luck to you....
I liked the comment you made above about there only being two profitable industries left in CA. As you probably already suspect, I'll be voting in November....
