Democratic group calls on former Gov. Wilson to ask Meg Whitman to release tax returns -- or resign
A newly formed Democratic and pro-labor group on Monday stepped up pressure on Republican gubernatorial hopeful Meg Whitman to release 10 years of tax returns, saying former Gov. Pete Wilson should resign as chairman of her campaign if she doesn't.

Noting that Wilson consistently released his own returns when running for public office and called on his opponents to do the same, the group, Level the Playing Field 2010, asked Wilson in a letter to "live up" to his own standards.

The so-called independent expenditure group has vowed to raise millions of dollars to target Whitman, the billionaire former CEO of eBay, in negative ads.

After the committee's radio commercials began running last week, the Whitman campaign filed a complaint with the state Fair Political Practices Commission alleging several violations of election law. Among other things, the complaint questioned whether Level the Playing Field was secretly working in concert with the campaign of presumed Democratic candidate Jerry Brown.

The group called the complaint "frivolous."

2. And she's oh-so-charming...
She came to my home town several months ago for this:

Candidate to Speak Tonight at Plush Resort to Group that Opposes Basic Workers' Rights

Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman's dinner speech Friday to the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), a lobbying group notorious for its radical positions opposing even the most basic workers' rights.

Whitman will join right-wing Republican political operative Frank Luntz and others at a two-day conference held at the exclusive Silverado Resort in Napa to strategize with the ABC about how to derail key components of President Obama's stimulus program including project labor agreements, which set wages and establish work rules that benefit communities, employers and workers.

"By pandering to this anti-worker special interest, Meg Whitman is showing just how out of touch she is with the priorities of California's working families," said California Labor Federation Executive Secretary-Treasurer Art Pulaski. "With families across the state facing record unemployment and other hardships, it doesn't sit well to see Whitman and her rich friends plotting to dismantle workers' rights at a luxury resort."

4. More of the same
Her television ad that I've seen carpet-bombing our local Fresno television station reveals what a typical, two-faced, lying politician she is. She claims that having worked for big companies qualifies her on "creating jobs", but in those corporate roles, the only thing she knew how to do is screw workers by outsourcing jobs in the name of higher corporate profits. On it's very face, it's just ludicrous.

She's every bit the same problem we already have, here in CA and on the federal level. Lying, two-faced, self-serving politicians.

5. eBay expanded* by buying up smaller companies like PayPal
in many ways, Silicon Valley is a microcosm of our entire smoke-and-mirrors economy.

Come to think of it, so is Sacramento. :eyes:
