Huell Howser is such a horse's ass
But how can you not like him? He's so enthusiastic about what he does.

I just caught the tail end of a California's Gold segment he did on In'n'Out Burger where he was singing (badly) the In'N'Out theme song (who even knew there was one).

I think those shows are terrific.

4. Oh, c'mon... Fer real?
Every time I get my mouse pointer on up near that link, a voice inside my head whispers: "Be afraid. Be very afraid..."

Must be something about the thought of seeing this guy trippin' that makes me feel that way.

2. California Gold is written for California fourth-graders
California fourth-graders study California history. Once I understood who the target audience was, I was able to relax and simply enjoy the show for what it is. He gets to visit some pretty cool places.

Huell's program is endorsed by a number of organizations including: the California Teachers Association; the California Federation of Teachers; the California State Library Foundation; the California Library Association; the California School Boards Association; the California Council for the Social Studies; and the California Historical Society.

5. Because fourth-graders think he's a dork and laugh at him...
and while they are laughing at the clown they are absorbing the salient information like a sponge.

That's AMAZZZZZING.

7. I like Huell - I was going to rip into your subject line until I read the body
:)

I think I'd be pretty embarrassed to hang out with him, but he finds some really interesting places and topics. One of his strong points IMO is his ability to let the person he's interviewing take center stage, and he seems to have a genuine interest that really draws people out...

10. His on-air persona enhances the entertainment of the show
I have friends who know him personally and say he's nothing like that when the cameras aren't rolling.

11. You should really download some of the Adam Carolla podcast or old Adam Carolla show
Huell was lampooned on a very regular basis.

They even had comedian Dana Gould in on about a weekly basis to do his Huell impersonation.
