Aggressive raccoons strike fear in the hearts of Carmel residents

CARMEL, Calif. (AP) - When raccoons attack!

It may sound like a bad idea for a TV show, but it's reality for Carmel residents who feel besieged by an invasion of aggressive raccoons.

Residents in this picturesque seaside community complain that the masked bandits have become too bold, even attacking them as they exit their cars.

Carmel Police Chief George Rawson told the City Council Tuesday night that reports of raccoon attacks are being "seriously investigated" and the department's response will be "swift and sure."

"We will follow Department of Fish and Game laws, but we will take steps to diminish the threat," Rawson said. "I understand we have to coexist with our wildlife."

3. Oh my. Here in our backyard in MN, a raccoon visited us last week
was after dark - started late with BBQing the chicken - and s/he was just there, feeling for peanuts - that we spread for the squirrels - with its paws.

S/he just stood there, ignoring us, even when spouse ran for the camera and used a flash!
