AB 583, the Clean Money Bill
http://www.caclean.org/(publicly funded elections for state offices) has passed both the necessary committees, now it's onto the floor of the Assembly for a vote, then onto the State Senate, and finally onto the Governor's desk.
We must act quickly to ensure AB 583's passage! The vote will take place by the end of this week or the beginning of next week. We have no way of knowing exactly when!
Here is our plan of attack--
1) Please call, write, AND fax Speaker Fabian Nunez, Phone: (916) 319-2046
Fax: (916) 319-2146 and Majority Leader Dario Frommer, Phone: (916) 319-2043
Fax: (916) 319-2143 AND your own Assembly member. (Click here to find your State Assembly member:
http://www.congress.org/congressorg/state/main/?zip=92118&action=setaddr&view=myofficials&state=CA&submit=GO )
This means EVERYBODY, even co-authors! ALL Assembly members need to know that their constituents are behind them, especially if the going gets rough. And even if you've already written them! Be sure to email your own lists of friends and family so they can have their voices heard, also.
2) Thursday is a statewide call-in day where we're going to swamp the
phones of Speaker Nunez, Majority Leader Frommer, and Assembly members
who haven't co-authored or vowed to support yet (but only from their
constituents). So mark Thursday down in your calendar and be ready to
call!
3) Phone bank on Wednesday night to ask constituents of fence-sitters to
call their Assembly member during Thursday's call-in day. They'll only
pay attention to constituents, so those calls will be a crucial part of
our effort. Everybody who volunteers will get a phone script and 10-20
people who've signed the petition in their district to call. We'll
start out with a statewide conference call at 7:00. If you can join the
phone bank, please send an email to info@Caclean.org.
4) Letters to newspapers and calls to talk shows in targeted districts.
We'll want to get letters to the editor into targeted newspapers saying
that the voters want to know where their Assembly members stand. You
can send those letters in even if you don't live in those districts.
5) Anybody who has contacts with local groups in districts that don't
have co-authors (see
http://www.caclean.org/aboutus/supporters.php) or
who haven't already assured us they'd vote yes (Levine, Ruskin,
Salinas), could ask them to have their members call and write their
Assembly members (see 1. above).
It's time for the full court press!
