DCCC accused of Meddling with CD11 's race
I'm passing this on for comment , anyone in CD 11?
Rec'd from a trusted and valued DFA source
--------------------------------------------------------
The DCCC is meddling in the CA CD 11 race

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) is supposedly trying to help improve the balance of Democrats in the House of Representatives. They are a PAC dedicated to this goal at any rate. There are many seats for which there is no Democratic contender in 2006. One would hope they would be trying to recruit candidates for those seats and helping good candidates who have announced in the other Congressional districts.

However, in California’s 11th CD the DCCC chairman, Rahm Emanuel and Ellen Tauscher are trying to derail the candidacy of Jerry McNerney, a good progressive Democratic candidate who ran against Richard Pombo in 2004 when nobody else would.

Jerry, a newcomer to politics in 2004, ran for this office against the Republican incumbent, Richard Pombo, and with a total budget of $150,000 and the backing of Democracy for America he took 104,000 votes, an excellent showing. In his present campaign Mr McNerney has the strong support of a large grassroots network of Democrats in his district and beyond. Jerry has hired a powerful DC firm to help him raise money this year and has already raised $75,000 from 700 supporters.

Instead of supporting McNerney, however, Mr. Emanuel has recruited a candidate to compete with him in the 2006 Democratic primary. The proposed candidate is a fighter pilot veteran who has neither experience nor grassroots support. This does not make sense unless Mr. Emanuel does not like Mr McNerney any better than he likes a Republican.

Why isn't the DCCC spending their time and resources trying to field Democratic candidates in the many Congressional races where there is no Democratic Party challenger instead of meddling in this race where there is a strong Democratic candidate with a good track record? And why shouldn't the voters of the 11th CD CA choose their own Democratic Party candidate for this seat through the prescribed primary election process instead of through antidemocratic backroom power politics driven by money from outside the district?

Friends, we need to speak out about this subversion of the democratic process and waste of DCCC resources.

Here is what you can do.

1. Write a message to Chairman Rahm Emanuel (dccc@dccc.org) to tell him what you think of this misguided focus on Mr Filson. Be polite, please, so that your message will have a better chance of being read. You can also call: 202-863-1500. If we want to make the Democratic Party democratic, were going to have to bury them in messages, telling them what we want and what we dont want.

2. Write a letter to Howard Dean, Chairman, Democratic National Committee, asking him to express strong disapproval of DCCC asset management in the case of Mr McNerney, or call them at 202-863-8000, or send email to Alice Germond, Secretary, DNC, at AliceGermond@dnc.org.

1. Contribute to the Jerry McNerney campaign. If we want to make the Democratic Party democratic, we're going to have to pony up for the candidates we like, and not leave the field to the millionaire "self funders". You can contribute online at https://www.securedpayments.com/jerrymcnerney/contribute.asp

2. Ask your Democracy for America MeetUp organizer to dedicate December's meeting to a letter-writing campaign producing letters to the DCCC and the DNC demanding that they not recruit a candidate where a viable candidate already exists in any state.

3. Pass this information on to other like-minded folks.

4. Stay up to date with the situation in the 11th District by tuning in to various anti Pombo blogs, starting with our own Matt Lockshins.

5. GET INVOLVED. I have signed on to the Jerry campaign and I am very excited about our chances to run and pull off this insurgent campaign, but we need everyone’s help to get this done. Let’s show California what it means to be Dean Grassroots. Let’s beat Pombo OUR WAY!

Thanks for your attention and your help with this.
