Drug industry gives $450,000 payday to Willie Brown

At least one person is making a killing leading up to Tuesday's special election -- lawyer, TV pundit and former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown.

The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers Association has paid Brown a whopping $450,000 since March -- with more to come -- to plot strategy for the campaign against the prescription drug measure Proposition 79 and in favor of the industry's rival Proposition 78

Most recently, Brown said, he advised the campaign on notable minorities who should be brought on board for the pro-Prop. 78/anti-Prop. 79 effort. They included campaign co-chair and state Assemblyman Mervyn Dymally, D-Compton (Los Angeles County), and California NAACP Conference President Alice Huffman, both of whom are African American, and PR consultant Jose Hermocillo, a Latino.

In the mid-eighties Willie was getting payola from the PMA. While the feds successfully destroyed several assemblyman, Willie skated.

2. Remember this story? Shortly after Matt Gonzalez lost his race

against Brown's chosen successor, Clinton and Brown were in a restaurant eating dinner in San Francisco.

A woman got up from her table and headed to the bathroom wearing a Matt Gonzalez t-shirt. Everyone in the audience cheered her. Clinton and Brown sat there looking foolish.
