Absentee Ballot Warning!!!!!!
My aunt reports that the absentee ballot in California is printed on
heavy paper and requires not 37 cents but 60 cents worth of postage.

A quick google turns up an abc news story confirming.

"Officials recommend putting the additional postage on the ballot to be sure it arrives."

5. Me too. That's what the instructions said.
Sigh. I guess my vote doesn't count again.

9. Me, too
I wondered about it, but it didn't feel too heavy. Damn, damn, damn. If it is too heavy, it'll come back. Probably too late for the election, but at least, if it doesn't come back, I'll know it went through.

15. The polling station should be in the same county for practical reasons.
Nobody drives the absentee votes which get turned in at one county to another county at the end of the evening. Hence, turn in your absentee ballot within the county within which you are registered. Otherwise, it will not count.

(They really need to change this!)

4. Is this a stunt?
This could be a fraud to make ballots invalid so Arnold's measures will pass.

8. Be nice if you put the full quote in your post. . .

Officials recommend putting the additional postage on the ballot to be sure it arrives. However, they've made a deal with the post office to accept ballots with less postage and the registrar will make up the difference.

10. thank you for posting that!
I mailed mine in too and btw vote NO on all of the FAUX propositions - lets embarrass the hell out of the gropenator!!!

Listen to Bernie Ward archives from last night 11/4 - there was an attorney on talking about the election after Barbara Boxer was on. He said voting NO on ALL of the propositions was the BEST THING TO DO!

P.S. I'm glad to know that my vote counts!

:kick:

11. The full quote
The deal appeared to apply to Santa Clara County only. Perhaps their
ballots are heavier than others, so it's only an issue there. I thought
it was important to err on the side of caution with respect to the rest
of the state.

13. Interesting that that would be in a heavily Dem area...
I wonder if that was by design also. Just like putting on the Decision 2004 TV show yesterday a half hour later than what it was scheduled on Dish Network (and perhaps DirectTV as well) so that our PVR's would only grab the first half where Arnold was speaking and not the second half where the opposition was speaking.

There is SO much subtle dirty politics going on with this election!

14. Don't forget
That you may be able to drop it off at a polling place on election day, no postage needed. That is definitely the case for Alameda county.

24. Yes, if the same rule applies statewide
Then you have until 8 today to drop it off at a polling place in your county.

17. That's odd.
My absentee ballot has always been postage paid . Maybe because my area doesn't have a polling place and we always vote absentee?

22. I don't know. Here in SF, my ballot was printed on heavy paper
and no way would 37 have covered the postage. On the other hand, our postage is paid in this county.
