2. As long as things don't change drastically California is a lock
for Kerry. Cal. Democrats had become very complacent in the past few years because they won virtually every election but I've never seen them more motivated than now.

This Sunday I worked the Kerry booth at a lical farmer's market (Studio City) and the support and enthusiasm was more than tangible. Not only that, we had three Republican re-register as Democrats.

Voter registration has quadrupled since Fahrenheit 9/11 opened. You've got to love that.

4. Der Gropernator has far too many problems. . .
these days with the Legislature for him to take a very active role in Shrub's campaign. Oh, he'll talk at the Republican Convention, but it'll be for the purpose of pumping Arnold more than in support of Shrub. In fact, Schwarzenegger has gone out of his way to avoid Smirk the last two times he's come to California.

Here's an interesting article on Herr Schickelgroper's current concerns (and I especially like how he's seen now to be not very different from Gray Davis):

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronic...

Sacramento -- For the first time, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger doesn't look like an unstoppable political force.

After scoring early successes that clearly established him as the dominant power in Sacramento, Schwarzenegger has stumbled in his effort to fix the state budget mess that helped propel him into office.

Government finance experts say his proposed budget borrows too much money, postpones difficult decisions and looks strikingly similar to Gov. Gray Davis' final budgets, which were derided by Senate President John Burton as "get-out-of-town-alive'' plans.

Some lawmakers and Capitol insiders say the political food fight that always accompanies budget season has shown the actor-turned-governor to be thin-skinned, and, after eight sure-footed months in office, exposed him as a beginner struggling to learn the ins and outs of statehouse deal-making.

as usual. It's time the party got its act together and became something besides a social club.

9. Relatively new Cali resident.. what's up?
Meaning what's up with the Cali Dems? Other than the governor's seat, which regularly goes to Republicans, I thought Cali was Dem paradise - no?

Please advise.

8. California is a gimmie state for Kerry
If he can't win there, he might as well pack it in and go back to MA. There is very little chance of it even being close in CA.

11. Kerry will win California as long as lazy Democrats don't stay home
He should win easily as long as Democrats go out and vote.

The only hope the right has is that everyone assumes Kerry will win so easily that they stay home, while the right goes out in great numbers.

Kerry is ahead in California by a large percentage in every real poll I've seen.

13. The Only Thing That Would Keep Dems Home Would be a "Terraist Attack"
Most Californians can't wait to vote the usurper out of office.

I can't imagine why even Repubicans would vote for him.
He has screwed our state for the past four years, letting Enron
rob us of billions of dollars.

When Clinton was President, the state of California had a booming
economy and its government was running a huge surplus.

The only thing that would keep Democrats home on Election Day would
be a "terra-ist attack" in one of the major Democratic cities.

I really hope they won't go that far to "win" our state.

12. Just keep spreading the truth
My mom works where Arnold is living these days, at a suite at the Hyatt across from the capital. He commutes with a jet on the weekends. She has passed him a few times in the hall and sees his people all the time. She likes his wife...on and on yuck...thank god my mom will vote democrat...she is like the many that believe his BS.

But I also worked a Farmers market registering voters in martinez this last week and I had a few republicans come up and say they were sick of Bush but what will Kerry do? Thank God all of us there were up on stuff and had good answers, they left saying they were voting for Kerry! Had young kids in their 20's sign up to vote, one who normally voted independent is voting for Kerry, I could go on and on, we have hundreds of volunteers in our area. The local meetup on thursday, the place was packed and our list of volunteers was full of people wanting to help and by next week we will have them out doing more voter regis.

14. Why the Hyatt?
Does anyone know why Arnold is living in the Hyatt and not the Governor's mansion? Is he just trying to make people believe he is an outsider and does not feel comfortable living in the Governor's mansion? Is he just too elitist to stay at the mansion?

17. He has a suburban Sacramento home.
Edited on Thu Jul-29-04 01:58 PM by Capn Sunshine
Not a mansion. The Gov mansion is a historical landmark, in a park, so it DOES exist:

But it's a relic in need of millions in rehab/modernization. Grey has been in office so long he converted his home for Gov residence purposes.

What Arnold will do , I don't know, but I hear he commutes from his personal mansion in Palos Verdes.

19. After Rancho de los Ronsicle was built in Carmichael,
...but never occupied, Governor Jerry Brown lived across the street from Capitol Park in an apartment at 1400 N Street. George Deukmejian, Pete Wilson and, I believe, Gray Davis, lived in a house the state leased in a gated community east of Watt Avenue, between Fair Oaks Boulevard and American River Drive. But Davis spent most of his time in Los Angeles.

I've heard the Schwarzeneggers have been shopping for a manse in the "Fabulous 40s" section of East Sacramento, near the Reagans' home on 45th Street just south of M Street. Nancy never wanted to live in the old Governor's Mansion at H and 16th Street, because she thought the Victorian was a firetrap.

I guess y'all can figure out what my hometown is.

23. Why would CA Democrats be any more scared than CA Republicans?
Even if 75% of the likely votes in CA stayed home, what makes you think that the ones that did show up would be disproportionately Republican?

22. Kerry will win.
Problem for Kerry is how much time to spend in Cali so as not to offend the delicate sensibilities of the legislature. HIs time would be better spent elsewhere IMHO.
