2,000 Too Many - Honoring the Dead (Candlelight Vigil-probably tonight)
Local newsletter from Camp Casey Chico (California)
Lots of upcoming events to participate in:

Greetings Camp Casey Chico! As we watch the neo-cons turn on each other over CIA leaks, and the general implosion of the administration, we must keep up the pressure to stop this illegal, immoral, wasteful, and terror-causing war. Your participation is needed now and in the upcoming months!

2,000 Too Many - Honoring the Dead
First, as you probably know, we are nearing the 2,000th American soldier “officially” killed as a result of this war (we know there are many more not counted in the official number). When number 2,000 is declared, we will honor those killed at Children’s Playground at 6pm. At 6:30 we will hold a candlelight vigil. An email will go out on the day of the action, so you may want to get your candles now. And watch for the email letting you know!

November 2nd – BUSINESS NOT AS USUAL – Walk Out of Work, Walk Out of School
We will rally at the Free Speech Area on Chico State campus at 10am-12pm. Then, there will be street theatre and a die-in in downtown Chico. Finally we will march to Wally Herger’s office to make sure he is aware of our disapproval of this war. To get involved in the street theatre, come to Children’s Playground on Monday (10/24) at 5:30. To get involved in the planning of the action, come to Camp Casey Chico Park (Children’s Playground) on Wednesday, October 12th at 5:30.

Movie Series
Back by popular demand, or at least in the planning phase, is the Chico Political Movie Series. We hope to announce soon the date and location of the political movie series so we can stay informed. Stay tuned!

Veterans for Peace
The Chico Chapter of Veterans for Peace will meet on Thursday, October 27th at 6 PM. Meet at Vectors, at 252 E. 1st. Street. Contact Jim @892-1757 for more information.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

October 24th, Monday at 5:30 PM – Street Theatre planning meeting for the November 2nd action. All welcome.

October 24th, Monday at 7:00 PM – Organizational meeting at the Peace and Justice Center to strategize and plan pro-peace community activities. All are welcome.

October 26th, Wednesday at 5:30 PM – Planning for November 2nd action. Meet at Camp Casey Chico (Children’s Playground).

November 2nd – Day of the Dead Action to Stop the War! See above for details.

Every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday Vigil at 5-7PM at Children’s Playground. Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to come anytime you want. Signs and chairs are stored at Pommes Frites on Broadway. Bring your own signs, also.

Join the Saturday morning vigil at 3rd and Main in Downtown Chico at 12:30-1:30PM

See you in the streets!!

Peace and solidarity,
The Camp Casey Chico Coalition

1. Info on Studio City and Sherman Oaks vigil locations
You can sign up now at MoveOn for the special vigil coming up this week
to mark the 2000th soldier death in Iraq. Studio City or Sherman Oaks
locations.

Studio City: The same as the usual Friday night vigil location –
Ventura & Laurel Canyon Blvds, NE corner. Time: 6:30PM
http://political.moveon.org/event/iraqvigils/5674

Sherman Oaks: Ventura & Van Nuys Blvds, NE corner. Time: 6:30PM
http://political.moveon.org/event/iraqvigils/5600

Vigil Date To Be Announced

Unfortunately, the 2000th death is coming very soon, so a message
announcing the date for the vigil will probably be the next one you
receive. As of today, Sunday, October 23, 2005, the official number of
soldiers killed in Iraq is 1996.

Cindy Sheehan is calling for people to pressure their local
representatives in congress.

“On the day of the 2000th, I will be in DC. I will go to the White
House. Our house. I will sit on the sidewalk again and demand that
the war criminals who live and work in there bring our troops home. I
suggest <…> every person who cares about ending the immorality of the
occupation of Iraq take signs and their presence to their Congressional
offices near them and demand that each and every Congressperson do
everything in his/her power to bring our precious lifeblood home from
the nightmare. It is time to get peacefully radical."

At the Studio City vigil location, we will have a sign up table for
those who wish to gather at Congressman Berman’s office, possibly the
following day. This would be a separate action unrelated to MoveOn.

Another action you may consider is calling your representatives.

8. We're meeting in Burbank
MoveOn is doing a great job. I've been checking the different vigils near my area. The numbers attending all over Los Angeles have been going up by the hour.

Check out the vigils in your area by going to the following web page:
