INITIATIVE: paper ballots, hand counted (to stop Diebold creeping in)
Bruce McPherson decision is definitely good news but underlines an ongoing problem--state and local officials keep reconsidering their equipment, and using others for optical scan that have central tabulators that are just as easily manipulated as the all electronic systems (they just have to steer recounts away from rigged precincts).

We cannot trust corrupt and corruptible elected officials who are selling our votes to private companies.

We need to get an initiative on the ballot for paper votes hand counted.

If they want to use the emachines for the handicapped--great. Let the machine print out their vote and hand count the print out.

The other way to make it more difficult to backdoor the emachines is to do all absentee (mail in)like Oregon. Then you automatically at least have a paper trail.

Instead of a lot of emails at once, send them a constant drip, every week or month, a letter or postcard, or fax or call. That way, even if they all come from you, it will seem like a growing groundswell. I plan to start doing this on some higher education issues at the state level.

On the other hand, if they aren't responding, maybe we should go straight to collecting signatures for the ballot measure.
