Governor invites lawmakers to movie

Sacramento -- In case cigars don't woo everyone, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has invited lawmakers and their families to a private screening of "Shrek 2" just a week before the Legislature's deadline to pass a budget.
<snip>

Political analysts say it's a shrewd move.

Several lawmakers said they hadn't decided yet if they would attend the event. Assemblywoman Sarah Reyes, D-Fresno, said she saw the movie earlier this week.
"It is interesting that a week before the legislative (budget) deadline, he hosts a friendly event for lawmakers," Reyes said.

<snip>

A spokesman for Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, D-Los Angeles, said the speaker would not be attending.
"I find it curious that a week before the budget is supposed to be passed in the Legislature, the governor's office wants lawmakers to take time out for a watching a movie," said Gabriel Sanchez, Nunez's spokesman.

I will say that this is a vast improvement over Davis when comes to trying to “relate”, but I think it also means you have to watch him all that much closer….he can be a sneaky sob…

2. Just don't drink the koolaid....
.. just bad joking.

Group dynamics and teambuilding are part of the process and something as 'lame' as Shrek 2 is just an attempt at bringing a group together.

Funny thing tho, as you point out, 'better than Davis' but let's just wonder if Davis HAD done the same stunt, what the Rep reaction would have been?

Childish?

Waste of time?

Wasting money?

Watching movies instead of concentrating on ... ?

It's not so much that the action is objectionable, but the RE-action to it is circumspect.

4. Sure Arnie, take them to a movie, then what will you expect in return.
If he just wants to get everyone together for a social event, why not a picnic? A situation where everyone can communicate a little, but a movie?

hmmm. I bet most don't go.
