Protest scheduled ASU Football Game 80K crowd expected Sat 6 p.m.
Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 08:37 PM by lonestarnot
Signs should be created such that the following information is kept in mind in their creation. N.O. flood victims are invited and have been given free tickets and are being bussed to the game if they so choose. Also all proceeds are being donated to N.O. flood victims. With this in mind, let us create signs to show how damn mad we are for the way FEMA Brown (shirts) and bushitler treated these people and how antiwar we all are! We will be at both gates... North and South! Look forward to seeing you all there! lonestarnot ... not for short!

1. Good Plan
Bush Sr. and Bill have been invited because all profits are going to the Clinton/Bush Katrina relief fund. Lets all get out there and show them who we are. This game is LSU and ASU moved here because of the disaster and it's on national TV. Lets give people another reason to call us MOONBATS!!

4. I think you have not thought about this. Maybe you like war and approve
of the treatment NO flood victims were treated in the aftermath? Just because the proceeds are going to be donated to bill and pappa efforts we should just forget the fucking war and how any assistance was STOPPED for nearly 6 fucking days... You are right, maybe MOONBATS should stay home! Everything you state is more reason for a visible protest. NO MOONBATS WELCOME!

12. Winkopedia says.....here you go...
Moonbat
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Moonbat is a political epithet coined in 2002 by Perry de Havilland of "The Libertarian Samizdata," a libertarian weblog. It was originally a play on the last name of George Monbiot, a columnist for The Guardian, but now the term enjoys great currency in the libertarian blogosphere as an all-purpose insult for modern liberals, peace protestors, and other ideological opponents. It is similar to the epithets Feminazi or Idiotarian.

According to de Haviland, a moonbat is "someone on the extreme edge of whatever their -ism happens to be." Adriana Cronin defines the term as "someone who sacrifices sanity for the sake of consistency." This term has long been used to describe protesters on the political Left, and is sometimes used to describe protesters on the political Right.

21. No, just an old guy
Okay, maybe I’m in the wrong forum. I thought this was Democratic Underground.
Like for Democrats.
Here is my point.
I was trying to point out that sometimes it is best to pick your fights. I grew up in the 60’s. So that makes me an “Old Fart”. I saw 2 Kennedys and Martin Luther King shot down. I came clean for Gene (anybody know what that means??) Didn’t think so. When I got back in country I went to Chicago in ’68. We got LBJ to drop out of the race. Did we end the war in ‘Nam? Hell no. We managed to get HHH defeated by a “Law and Order” piece of crap. Can you say RICHARD FREAKING NIXON????.
It’s all PR!!
20% of this country is hard left. 20% is hard right. That leaves 60% that has to be courted. How the hell does protesting a fund raising event like the ASU LSU football game talk to the middle of this country. Listen!! Like it or not, most people don’t even know what DU is! Most of middle America wants comfort and stability, they don’t need “Those damned hippies in their face” I know I’ve been there.

22. I don't think "protesting the game"
is the correct term for what we want to do.
In these pivotal moments I see nothing wrong with holding
ant-war/anti bushitler signs WHEREVER thousands of people may gather.
Frankly........I'm not out to "court" anyone! People will come to their own conclusions in their own time. I personally feel it is my duty as a HUMAN.....not Dem........not progressive.....HUMAN! to speak out whenever/wherever I can.

As for anyone who may argue that this particular game is not the time nor place...again, I disagree. You better believe that the Bush crime family and this vile administration will be there to exploit the hell out of these people.
I predict that the survivors who attend, the ones whom are being given free tickets and free transportation to the game will be seated in the same section...........it will be the primarily black section of people waiving those little flags that will conveniently be given to them just before kick-off.
I also predict that the half time show will be oh so red white and blue! We may even see Daddy Bush bounce a little black baby on his knee as some semi-famous black person sings "God bless America"

Soooooooooooooo, I think it is my duty as a resonable sane citizen to counter the disgusting display of "Patriotism" that will no doubt be thrown at these people.
You don't think they're going to give out *free* tickets to these *refugees* for noth'n do ya?

And BTW.......given the past week and all of the horrific scenes we have been witness to..........what fight shall we pick?

23. See you at the game, with a tear in my eye
I don’t think I said “protesting the game”. That would be something else altogether. Like “How can we play games with all that’s going on in the world now?” I could live with an argument like that and debate the point. What I’m saying is that when it appears that when somebody is trying to help the victims of a tragedy it might be construed as crass to complain.
However my main point is that “preaching to the choir” the 20%, is not going to change anything. We went through “hell no we won’t go” and “make love not war” and all the slogans you can write. You know what we got? BACKLASH. NIXSON. KENT STATE. AMERICA LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT.

Ahh for the old days. Gene McCarthy, Hubert Humphry, Walter Mondale, Jimmy Carter, people that could inspire a generation. People who didn’t have to stoop to name calling to make a point. People with ideas and plans. Where are these kind of people now?
O well, just the rantings of a child of the 60’s

24. "PEOPLE WHO DIDN'T HAVE TO STOOP TO NAME CALLING?"
That's a joke, right, "Moonbats?"

Welcome to DU--on to a matter of protocol.

Using the phrase "moonbats"--a phrase I was familiar with prior to your appearance, is, to me, the equivalent of walking into an unfamiliar bar and calling the first black person you see a, well, you know the word.

You don't know a damn thing about us, you're using a derogatory word to describe us, and you expect us to want to hear MORE from you?

Thanks, but no thanks.

BTW, I find DU's search feature a tremendously informative tool.

We know where you've been, you've got your '60s cred well established--but where you are now is suspect, IMHO.

25. Locking
Please feel free to re-post the original post in this thread again - and I am asking that everyone else please try to focus on the topic of the thread, and avoid personal and group attacks. Calling other members "freepers" OR "moonbats" is a clear personal attack, and a violation of DU rules on civility.

Please feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions about this lock or about DU's rules in general, which can be found here:

Thanks, all!
