Hippie Shacks -- what do you know about them?

On a recent visit to Alaska, I saw several references and heard people talk about "hippie shacks." I saw some of them as well, abandoned as far as I could tell.

Does anyone know about the hippie shacks? Have any stories??


On a related note, does anyone have experiences with communes in Alaska? I thought I saw what looked like one outside of Wasilla.
