Division of Elections apparently tampered with 2004 election
results (in the "so what else is new" department).

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Alaska Democratic Party officials say the 2004 election data they sued the state to get may have been changed this year, and they want to know why.

Party Chairman Jake Metcalfe says a review of the central tabulator file containing that year's raw election results by precinct showed activity on the database between July 12 and 13 of this year. In a letter to Alaska Division of Elections director Whitney Brewster, Metcalfe said he does not understand why the data would be changed after the party petitioned for its release.

"As a result of these modifications, data from the 2004 election appears to have been altered," Metcalfe wrote in his letter, dated Thursday.

In addition, the Democratic party's review showed 293 manual entries were made to the file in 2004 between Nov. 2 and Dec. 2. Manual entries are typically made when ballots are damaged and can't be scanned.

1. Thankfully Metcalfe & crew are still on the case....
But unfortunately, it seems the investigations drag out so long that there's no way we'll know the truth before the election..

Speaking of elections.. I went to the "Make it Alaska" festival today (Saturday) and I've gotta tell you.. it was depressing how many Palin/Parnell buttons people were wearing. I didn't see one single Knowles button. What the ^##@ is going on!?!?!?

I realize that ANYONE will be better than Murkowski.. but I think the females supporting her must be anti-choice, and the males supporting her just want a "hot babe" as Governor.

Her screatchie voice is starting to get on my nerves!

2. Oh... and one more thing while I'm so pissed at Palin supporters..
I was in shock when I read the IDIOTIC letter to the editor today from some lunatic in Eagle River (Ken Monti http://www.adn.com/opinion/letters/ )

He writes ...

" Show this state that talk is cheap. I really didn't expect Tony Knowles to show up anyway. He didn't do much for veterans -- or the military based in Alaska -- during the eight years he spent as governor

---OMFG!!!!---

Everyone in this state knows how much Tony does for Veteran's and how he was the one who passed the legislation for Veteran's housing.

ARGGRGGGggGGGHhhHHhhh.. I was so mad that the ADN wouldn't run a correction to the idiot's letter when THEY THEMSELVES had made note that the farewell that Palin attended was only ONE of two that military families had planned for that unit.

In other words -- she could have shown her face up at the debate, and still attended one of the farewell events.

KEN MONTI OF EAGLE RIVER.. WHOEVER YOU ARE.... YOU SUCK!!

3. Yeah, I don't get the Sarah fascination...

I thought she was probably fairly harmless at first, but the more I see of her, the less I like her. I can't believe she would be so disingenuous as to say that she has no control over those HORRIBLE ads by the Republican Governors Committee or whatever the hell they're called. If Tony could keep the Democratic Governors Committee out of our politics, she could have done the same. I see her as being just more of the same ... what did someone say? Loren Leman in a dress? I agree with you on that letter - I nearly fell out of my chair when I read that.

My hope is that Andrew Halcro will siphon off enough of the intelligent Republican votes to dilute her impact. I think it would be a disaster to elect her with so much at stake.

Meanwhile, did you get Don's campaign literature in the mail today? He's bragging about being the fourth most powerful member of Congress -- not something to be too proud about, I wouldn't think, given recent events, and especially his Abramoff connections. Did you see many Benson supporters at your events?

I think she (Sarah) is very clever in a conniving sort of way.

I also think that if the majority of voters are LAME enough to put another r-THUG in office after what we've been through.. the idiots will suffer serious buyer's remorse in less than a year (and they DESERVE to!)

I don't think I've seen one single Halcro sign anywhere.. so I don't think that he'll siphon too many votes from either of them.. I guess we could be surprised.. but dayum- where are his supporters hiding??!!!?? Aside from a couple of letter's in the paper, he sure seems to be a non-factor in this race.

Did you see today's ADN? Where they do the "Who's up/Who's down" they gave both Palin and Knowles the down arrow for one reason or another .. but Halcro got the 50/50 arrow <--->

It was 50/50 because they ended their blurb with "He doesn't have a chance!"

Oh and Yep.. I got the folded ad from Don Young yesterday, but I didn't even open the sticky seal to look at it.. The picture on the outside was so ugly, I tossed it directly into the garbage can.

5. I read his bullshit and then tore it to shreds.
Diane has info on her site to dispute nearly everything Don was patting himself on the back for. I really want this guy gone (as if you couldn't guess).

As for Sarah, conniving is an excellent word. You know how she's been saying that she can't communicate with the Republican Governors Committee to have them pull the ads? APOC says of COURSE she can. She's a liar just like all the rest of them - wolf in lamb's clothing.

6. Why isn't this getting more attention?
Do you guys understand what this could show? THIS COULD BE PROOF POSITIVE THAT THE REPUBLICAN LED DIVISION OF ELECTIONS TAMPERED WITH ELECTION DATA!

They made these changes AFTER the ADP requested the file! A year and a half AFTER the election! There is NO reason, NO reason at all, why changes should have been made then! THIS DEMANDS AN ANSWER! I hope the God the ADP keeps pursuing this in court because they have managed to back the Republicans in to a pretty tight corner! Combine this with the FBI investigations in to Republicans legislatures and we could potentially have a watershed year coming up!

Sorry for all the exclamation points, but I just want to get across how huge this is.

The actual election database file in question can be found HERE: http://www.bbvforums.org/forums/messages/8/44272.html

So what can we Alaska DUers do to push this? That should be the thrust of this discussion.

7. We had a pretty good thread about this going in the election
forum a few days ago. I think I had like 26 recommendations for greatest page, and many, many comments.

As for the lawsuit, I was at a fundraiser for Diane Benson last night and talked with Jake Metcalfe for quite a while about it. He said they will definitely be taking it back into court and agreed with me that this tampering is a felony offense, both under state law and federal, so hopefully they'll be able to get to the bottom of it. As I have said many times, I think Loren Leman would look great in an orange jumpsuit.

One other little bit of gossip that I should probably pass on is that apparently one of Leman's assistants works with Sarah Palin's campaign, so that's probably another thing we should keep our eyes on.
