Welcome, Governor Asshat!

Gov.-elect Robert Bentley in a speech at a Baptist church this afternoon said he plans to be the governor of all Alabamians and be color-blind, but he also said people who aren't ''saved" Christians aren't his brothers and sisters.

"There may be some people here today who do not have living within them the Holy Spirit," Bentley said. ''But if you have been adopted in God's family like I have, and like you have if you're a Christian and if you're saved, and the Holy Spirit lives within you just like the Holy Spirit lives within me, then you know what that makes? It makes you and me brothers. And it makes you and me brother and sister."

Well, at least he went ahead and got that out there right up front.

1. Well, we survived Fob James and Guy Hunt...
I guess we'll survive this idiot, too.
Doesn't seem like we've got much choice.

2. I once said on DU that I would probably never call anyone a "douchebag"
Well, I was wrong.

Bentley is a douchebag.

Blame me, or the evil influence of Jon Stewart for me saying it aloud, but Governor Doctor Bentley is a douchebag.

On his first full day in office, he got our state ridiculed on national television, for something he said on his first partial day in office.

Great start, douchebag!

And it's in the great and grand Alabama tradition of trashing and marginalizing minorities of one kind or another.

Way to go, douchebag!

Regarding MLK, he said:

I appreciate what he has done for not only the African-American community but for the white community, because he helped everything to change, even though he had to give his life for it.

What a douchebag! King didn't "give" his life. It was taken from him by people that had been influenced by this kind of ignorant rhetoric.

Bentley then said he would work to help Alabamians whether they live in Wilcox County, where many poor blacks live, or Mountain Brook, where many upper-income whites live.

Mountain Brook is actually a wealthier area than Beverly Hills, California. I'm sure they want and need that government help just as much as the huddled masses in Wilcox and Greene counties, two of the poorest counties in America. Government must be "flat" and, and in some sick and twisted sense, "fair," after all.

What a douchebag!

Sorry for using the word "douchebag."

4. I'll be sure to get some inside info for y'all.
All I have to say is that I have connections in the state capitol. ;)

5. Oh, wait. He apologized!
I guess that makes it all better.

Gov. Bentley has decided, of his own accord and after much introspection and soul-searching, that non-Christians, including non-theists, are just as valuable and deserving as the Deacons in his own Baptist church!

No, seriously. Bentley showed his cards on his first day as Governor. He views the world and everyone in it first and foremost though the distorted piece of broken Coke-bottle that is his chosen brand of evangelical Christianity.
