I'm calling out everybody!
:D

Where the hell did everyone go?

A couple of years ago, this was one the most active state forums, relative to population. And now it's deader than a "door nail," whatever the hell a door nail is.

Our most active participant seems to be some random moderator that sometimes dumps some random "news" story here to die.

Whatever happened to people like trof, southlandshari, bamalefty, unsavedtrash, Frances, nealmhughes, piedmont, and that guy who's handle started with "au?" ;)

Did everyone decide to stop fighting for the "lost cause?"

No, I'm not talking of the civil war! I'm speaking of Vivian Figures riding on the crest of the Obama wave to knock the homegrown in-bred, Jefferson Sessions, out of the U.S. Senate.

Yes, I know it is a hopeless endeavor. But show some moxie. Show some hope. Show some evidence of existence! Give me a pulse, Jim!

You know that Vivian would be a HUGE improvement over Beauregard, so say it! Say it loud, and proud!

(Comments on my Obama shirt have been about ten to one positive, by the way.)

1. Hey, Syrinx
I really need to do a nostalgia trip up to my alma mater.
Class of '63.
Whew...was that REALLY 45 years ago?

Right now I'm the treasurer for a Foley city council candidate's campaign.
She would be the first black woman ever to serve.
And I think she has a better than even chance to win it.

4. good luck with the campaign!
I don't really know anything about the Foley race, but if she's potentially the first black woman to serve and you support her, that's good enough for me!

I know this is probably wishful thinking, but I'm really hoping for a tidal wave of new black and young voters that will shift the Republicans out to sea, even in Alabama.

A fellow can hope, can't he? :hi:

23. She did!
By something like 60% to 40% against a 3 term incumbent.
I plan to attend her swearing in ceremony in November.

20. Thanks for your good work, Trof
I graduated from Auburn in 63. Where did the years go?

I have been so obsessed with the Presidential election that I have been spending my time in the latest forum.

I do check out Left in Alabama (found the link to the site here) fairly often because they post the Bobby Bright ads. I have some family and friends ties to Montgomery and am really hoping Bright will win. He has great ads. Has anyone else seen them?

 the photo was taken at the national afscme conference last year. all the democratic presidential candidates(they were seeking the union's endorsement) spoke that day and took part in a q&a forum hosted by chris matthews. the day before i spoke and took part in a forum hosted by donna brazile, so they let me go backstage and meet the candidates. i got to briefly meet obama and talk with him for a moment. he's even more charismatic in person, tall, and very handsome. one of the few times i've met someone that i've felt nervous around! lol

7. Former lifelong Alabamian here...
I lurk sometimes in this forum, but don't always have a lot to say. Born and grew up in Fairhope, was a reporter for the Press Register for some years, and try to follow home-state politics as much as possible.

8. hi!
I recall seeing you around DU a little.

Fairhope is a cool little town. Just the other day I say a restaurant there featured on the Food Network, called Panini Pete's. It was on the show "Diners, Drive-In's and Dives."

http://www.paninipetes.com/fairhope/

Have you ever been there? It looked like a lot of fun.

Thanks for dropping in! :hi:

11. Here in t-town, we are still charging hard.
Hey Syrinx, are you in Tuscaloosa? Just wantin to see if there are other t-town residents on here. The frat boys have taken over with their W's and McCain stickers. Sad that what daddy says is what they think. Wouldnt be as bad if their dads were smart.

12. hey
Yeah, I'm a T-Towner. I can remember at least three other of us on DU, but I guess it would be bad form to name them without permission. :)

I really haven't noticed as many McCain stickers and things this time, as the Dubya stuff last time around, though they outnumber Obama stickers by a wide margin, no doubt. I think I've seen a grand total of three Obama bumper stickers.

The Tide didn't look so hot against Tulane. A win's a win, I guess. But I had my hopes up for a better performance after dominating Clemson. I guess we'll see.

I should know better than to ever start naming names because I'm always bound to leave someone out. In my defense, I think I've crossed paths with you more outside this little area of DU. In any case, keep us informed of any Siegelman nuggets you come across! And by the way, I thought one of the funniest episodes of "King Of The Hill" was the one where Bobby became addicted to chopped liver!

:D

EDIT: But the best episode was definitely the one where Hank is creeped out by W's limp handshake.

18. I've been largely absent
the last couple of years. So a general kind of update...I've had a crazy deadline schedule, my husband was deployed, and republican politics just piss me off so bad I find I can't write if I pay too much attention! That sounded worse than it is, I swear. Anyway, my husband is one of the Dothan cops who got shot a few months ago and we just found out my 3yo niece has cancer and those deadlines...Yeah. It's been a damned strange year for me.

The good news is we can hope for the future at least. Both my daughters go to public middle school here in Dothan and Obama won their mock election last week! Interestingly enough, my oldest daughter was elected to the SGA the same day running an anti-campaign campaign lol. She got nominated and just kinda refused to run. It was a little strange, but we certainly weren't going to make her do it if she didn't want to. I'm not sure if that means she's just more "popular" than the other kids who were nominated or if their generation is just less swayed by bs, ya know? It bears watching I think. Cause while she is a very geeky/nerdy kind of kid (heck she's in the chess and debate club not cheerleading), she freaking knows everyone. I can't take her anywhere without running into people (kids and adults) who know her. My other daughter (a year behind her sister) is pretty much the same. I'm loving that frankly, and I'm really relieved this "difference" is not isolating them. They like being different and unique, and it hasn't seemed to have a negative effect on either of them. I really hope this trend continues.

They both carry their Obama notebooks (that they made. we can't get it here or I'm sure they'd both have bumper stickers plastered all over their school stuff) with them everywhere in school and both have said the only negative comments they've had is from teachers. A few years ago I would have been at the school raising hell, but they can pretty much hold their own now. It's bad when your 6th and 7th grader are better informed than their teachers, isn't it? Though they tell me, most of the teachers are Obama supporters. *vbg* I have the most awesome girls, I have to say, and the older they get the more I like them. :)

19. I admit it I suck.
I do occasionally try to come in and see what's going on. But, I have sick family, and general insanity in the real world so, I've been away from DU in general for a while.
I'll do better. Promise.
