Rick and Bubba
Few Alabamians need an introduction to Rick and Bubba, a pair of pseudo-red-necks who have made millions catering to the lowest common denominator through their syndicated radio show, TV show, CDs and now a book.

I, myself have never been able to stomach their low-brow, intellectually stunted humor (think Larry the Cable Guy, but less sophisticated) and have therefore avoided their show and merchandise.

Then, yesterday in a bookstore, I see their BOOK (Rick and Bubba's Expert Guide to God, Country, Family and Anything Else We Can Think Of) displayed prominently. Just out of curiosity, I grabbed a copy and looked at the back cover. There were several blurbs praising the dumb-assed duo and their book... blurbs penned by Sean Hannity and Oliver North among others. Immediately I realized that there was more to hate than the brain-dead ignorance of these guys! Hell, I should have known that they were right-wing ass-hats... even without listening to their show.

So I cast about on the internets in an attempt to determine the extent of their right wing pedigrees and quickly learned that these guys are some of the most sickeningly Bush-loving, liberal-baiting, bible belching wing-nuts imaginable. Their own website boasts a series of videos of the guys being interviewed in various contexts on Faux News.

Yes, it appears that Bama's favorite dunderheads have hitched their wagon to the neo-con fascist machine! Here's hoping they go down with the ship!

1. I can't stand them either
I don't listen to them, but I have heard them, if you know what I mean.

Faux-patriots to the core.

I used to listen to Mark And Brian when they were in Birmingham (before they made the "big-time"), and they were comic geniuses compared to Rick And Bubba.

Saw them on Fox News one night and was treated to a sickening display of Bubba telling Hannity what a "great American" he is. Yuck.

2. Yeah... they were the real deal.

As chatty, comedy based morning teams go, Mark and Brian were the real thing. Rick and Bubba appear to have adapted a great deal of their shtick from shows like Mark and Brian, but with a dumbed-down simpleton vibe.

I always got the impression that Mark and Brian were really intelligent guys with an accessible sense of humor that appealed to a broad audience. With Rick and Bubba, from what little of their show I have actually endured, I feel like my intelligence is being insulted.

3. Oh, God!
I avoided listening to them when I lived in B'ham. I loved Luca!! But then, one day she was gone...

8. Oops!
I realized too late to correct it that the spelling was "Luka."
Anyhow, I thought she was British, but yes, we're talking about one and the same. I bought my Mazda truck from the dealership where she previously once made an appearance, just 'cause I can be so week willed. :-)

5. That would be Larry the Cable Guy
I can't say how similar they are to Larry... as I have never exposed myself to either act for more than a few unfortunate seconds at a time.

One difference that I am aware of is that Larry the Cable Guy comes of like a guy putting on an ignorant hick persona for comedic purposes... whereas Rick and Bubba seem to have become their characters on a full-time basis.

Humor wise, I'd guess they are on the same level. Rick and Bubba have a CD on the market called "Pull Our Finger" That about sums it up for me.

7. I think they are simulcast on Turner South
But I don't know if you can get that station in Missouri. But don't worry, your not missing much. (Rick And Bubba, I mean. I guess Turner South isn't that bad.)

10. Are John Boy and Billy
still big time supporters of chimpy? I stopped watching them long ago and now spend my AM's with Stephanie Miller.

11. Is Stephanie Miller actually on an Alabama radio station?
I remember when she had a late-night talk show in the Carson/Letterman/Leno/Arsenio mold. (Unless I'm mixing her up with someone else, but I don't think I am.) It wasn't particularly political, but I thought it was funny. Alas, it didn't last long.

13. No, I am sorry to say, Steph is not
on a local station. I listen to her via internet connection. I am lucky that I am able to do that at work.

12. I like that station too
They probably have the best local and state news there is. And I tune into Prairie Home Companion sometimes. I like Jeremy Butler's show too, although I seldom hear it because I'm usually doing other things when it's on. (I've met Jeremy, and he's a nice guy.)

And I must confess, that I sometimes like to listen to the Finebaum show on the local talk station, but he can get me steamed sometimes. ;)

14. I was on rick and bubba several times to clear the air
Years ago i tried to clear the air to these guys on what wicca was. Later last year after talking to rick personaly for two hours i went on the show but was treated like crap.
Rick had forgot our little talk about wicca i guess and of course with their right winged thinking started to slam the belief of this religion.
They are truly uneducated about the actual history of who killed who and why. I did say this and they pretty much went silent on air. Having nothing to defend truth they used toilet humor

17. +1
Between those two zoo-crew asswipes, corporate rock, pop garbage, and white-bread modern christian music--there is a few places where sanity and decent music still exist on the public airwaves.

15. I feel the same way....
I moved to Tuscaloosa back in October. When I got here first, I was immediately put off by all the stations here(no Rock station?!), then my cousin told me about Rick and Bubba. He went on and on about it being the best morning show ever. I personally like hearing music in the morning but since none offer that I decided to listen. BIG MISTAKE! As an American, I feel offended. As an democratic, I feel offended. As an intelligent person with reasonable views, I feel offended. As a woman, I feel offended. As an African American, I feel offended. I use to respect the right even though I disagreed on policies with them. However this show is so garbage. I feel ashamed to have listen to them. I feel ashamed for anyone associated to them. I wish someone would get some sense and cancel that show. I feel that Alabama deserves some intelligent people to be its voice.

16. I'm not sure if you can get it up there in Tuscaloosa
but TK101 (101.5FM) out of Pensacola is pretty decent.

The only time I listened to Rick and Bubba was when my CD player was broken. After thirty minutes of surfing morning shows I went straight to a store and bought a new one.
