A New Hampshire campaign update.
I have posted before about my friend up here who is a classic New Hampshire guy, who served in the Army Reserve for years and who is the walking, talking epitome of "Live Free or Die". We had a very interesting conversation today. He was doing some work at my new place and I was scrubbing the kitchen and I asked him if he had watched the Edwards/Cheney debate. He said "Nah, I don't pay attention to that political stuff." I told him he had to pay attention at some point because he had to vote and that he was going to vote for Bush over my dead body.

He then, let rip what I can only describe as a rant against Bush. He told me that a friend of his who is a quadroplegic (as a result of the first war on Iraq) with 3 kids has had his benefits cut by 2/3rds. He,himself, was denied his benefits because, he said "the Army lost my papers." He had copies, thank God. He sort of casually said "Veterans will do alot better with Kerry."

Then I asked him what he thought of Cheney. He really knew very little about him. I asked him if he had heard of PNAC and he said no. As I described to him what PNAC was, he eyes got wide and he began to shake his head. I ended up telling him in the nicest was that he needs to pay attention to these things because his life depends on it.

I think I'm getting through!

2. A nitpick.
That's a great story and your buddy is exactly right, but your subject line is a bit mesleading. Especially on DU "New Hampshire Campaign Update" usually indicates a thread about how the Kerry campaign is doing in NH, with data, poll results, etc. rather than an anecdote about one person, however typical.
