I have to agree with Matcom. Edwards did fine, but didn't knock it out
of the park.

I don't know that he needed to. People don't vote for the VP.
As long as he held his own he just needed to demonstrate that he wasn't a liability as the man one breath away. He's done that in spades.

1. I agree, especially after the cringing debacle from 2000 VP debate

3. The Repukes needed a knock out tonight, not us.
they're the ones that need to change the direction of this race. Edwards did everything he needed to do tonight plus some.

4. I don't think he could. Cheney has no conscience about lying. He will
tell one after another. He is debating a guy who still claims that Iraq had WMD's and a connection to Saddam.

5. Thing is, without a KO,
The pundits will get away with calling it for Cheney - they couldnt call the Kerry debate for Bush because Kerry so clearly beat him down

6. I agree
and he got out the important facts once again, giving details.

Cheney will be touted by the RW press for the mere reason that he knows how to put words together into a cohereant sentence.

7. He is heads and shoulders
above Lieberman. I am extremely happy with our VEEP choice tonight and I am very proud of his performance.

8. To a certain extent it only appears that way cuz Bush did so bad last time
Edwards is holdin' his own against a man who's a much better debator than *.

9. The fact that he stood his ground against all the experience and lies...
says it all.
JE was grace under pressure. I BELIEVED in him more.
If you consider the VP is a heartbeat away from the presidency....it HAS to go for JE.

10. If likability is important, surely, it's no contest.
Cheney has about as much charm as poisonous snake.

12. No one will ever top Perot's guy with the capt kangaroo suit &hearing aid
turned off, but.... this was fun to watch, too.

This was a freebie (as long as nobody blew it), and just a spectator sport. Fun tho!

13. And Cheney was killing him by being BORING, and Ifill asked Dating Game qu
estions like "How are YOU different from HIM"???

Edwards had to bring up health insurance, since no one's asking.

GOD.

14. It's like playing a football team that is allowed to cheat and you refuse
to do so. There is NO way to destroy them. Your best chance is to stay with them and hope the fans admire what you've done.

16. The last reply to the last question was JE's best...
"They could go with the American people, they went with the drug companies."

the closing statement is a little preachy, but it might resonante with some people because people REALLY do feel the pinch of higher prices, etc.
