NEW CBS POLL: 47 - 47 (LV)
Edited on Mon Oct-04-04 05:35 PM by jefferson_dem
Sen. John Kerry's debate performance appears to have returned the presidential campaign to a dead heat and eroded some of President Bush's advantages on national security issues, according to a new CBS News/New York Times poll.

Three out of five registered voters surveyed said they believe Kerry won the Sept. 30 debate in Miami, compared to 23 percent who think Mr. Bush prevailed.

Kerry's performance helped boost the Democratic ticket five points to a 47-47 percent tie with the Bush/Cheney team, erasing a lead that the Republicans held for a month. One percent of likely voters surveyed backed Ralph Nader.

The poll also points to substantial worries on U.S. policy in Iraq — a linchpin issue for both candidates — but widespread doubt that either man has a plan to deal with the continuing violence there.

2. They're tied everywhere but ABC?
With Shrub somehow holding onto a 5-point lead? Those respondents must've had a blackout last Thursday.

7. Not really that bad
Edited on Mon Oct-04-04 05:47 PM by tritsofme
its within the MoE

The last CBS/NY Times poll in 2000 was worse, showing Bush leading 47-42, but they didn't poll the weekend that DUI came out.

3. I'm now convinced all these polls
are full of shit. I remember when all the other polls had Bush ahead by 6-11 points. And Pew had it Bush only ahead by two. And now the others have it Kerry ahead or tied, And the Pew Poll has Bush way ahead. Puh Please. Just show up and vote..

I assume the new NBC Poll will have Bush up by 4-6 points

5. Good internals for Kerry! Look at this shit!
Edited on Mon Oct-04-04 05:45 PM by jefferson_dem
Chimp job approval is a meager 47% and 54% say country is on the wrong track.

Also, this -

Before Thursday's debate, 32 percent of registered voters viewed Kerry favorably and 44 percent unfavorably. After the Miami meeting, his favorability mark improved by 8 points to 40 percent, and his unfavorable edged down to 41 percent.

By contrast, Gore's favorable/unfavorable ratings did not improve in 2000 (Gore's numbers actually slipped slightly, although the drop was within the margin of error).

While 44 percent of registered voters see Mr. Bush favorably, an equal number of voters see him unfavorably.

6. Need to "erode" more of Shrub's "advantages"
Millions of people saw the real * on Thursday night. Many of them want to forget that face, label it an anomaly, but you and I know that is really him: disconnected, out-of-touch, not credible, incoherent. I think we need to remind people that it's not okay to have an incompetent president!

Remind them of his performance, and maybe they'll remember how uncomfortable they felt, and how they started to question their decision to support him.

8. This CBS Poll can't be right!!!!!!!!!! Britt told me otherwise!!!!!
I was watching Britt and the panel, and they cited Pew, ABC and Zogby and told me the race hadn't changed a bit after the debate. In fact, Bush had gained some strength!!! They wouldn't be blowing smoke up my ass...would they????

10. Yes... the only polls they cited had * slightly ahead.
Mr. Hume actually growled (no joke) at Maura Liasson when she brought up the Gallup#'s, then went on to pick apart the Newsweek poll because it dared to sample 2% more Dems than Reps.

12. LV polls won't include any newly registered voters -
My guess is Kerry's lead is probably several points. Voter turnout is going to be key. The newly registered folks will make the difference!
