I trust John Kerry. This is a man of sound judgment.
1) He didn't panic under fire in Vietnam. He was an excellent combat officer who kept cool in tight situations and kept his crew alive.
2) He didn't panic in December 2003 when it looked like Dean would run away from things. He kept his eye on the ball in Iowa and pulled out the win.
3) He didn't panic in May 2004, when he had the nomination sowed up but was very low on funds. He didn't let the Bush financial juggernaught scare him. Instead, he pushed forward with excellent fundraising and campaigning, ending up with his campaign in financial parity with Bush's.
4) He made an excellent VP pick in Edwards, ignoring the pundits who said that Edwards would overshadow the top of the ticket.
5) He made a mistake in August, not counterattacking on the Swift Boat smear quick enough. But he REALIZED HIS MISTAKE, brought in new blood for the campaign, and started listening to more aggressive advisors like Carville, Begala, and Sasso. Kerry was confident enough to listen to people trying to give him advice.
6) Even though the polls were leaning against him last week, he put in a very strong debate performance that undid weeks of smears and lies from the GOP. He came off as intelligent, sober, thoughtful, but also more concise than usual. He came off smart without being arrogant. As a result, he's pulled to parity with Bush or even a bit ahead.
Kerry has not run a perfect campaign. But he's shown steady judgment at most points. He's shown the ability to respond to conditions, take advice that he may not want to hear, and appoint people with strong personalities to the right positions.
I trust John Kerry to be a great president. With our help, I trust him to win this election. And so should you.
