Kerry needs to reference 14 bases in Iraq to state side base closings
and to the closing of VA hospitals.

MS repukes use base closings during every election cycle - the press says a base is on the closure list, the repuke congress critter (lott/cochran) or the repuke gov (barbour) promise to prevent the closing - and they get the votes of those that rely on the base.

Kerry needs to be appalled at * admin building 14 bases in Iraq but threatening the jobs of civilians at home by closing bases.

He also needs to include the VA hospital closings that are on the horizon. Double whammy - double slam to * and his admin - how can * say he loves the military but do nothing about the closing of the VA hospitals - closing VA hospitals is a slap in the face to the veterans that have been maimed in this immoral war. Closing the VA hospitals means a lose of civilian jobs and loses to the tax base of local governments.

2. He needs to mention them again and relate them to the
closures of bases in the states.

This is a very important issue to many voters - repukes use it all the time to scare their constituients (kind of like if you don't vote for us, the dems will close your the bases - they are weak on the military).

3. That is a very clever idea
I've been frustrated with the number of "how do we defend against" posts recently, this one is very good.

I like "Kerry needs to be appalled..." -- that's real election thinking.

The real strength of the idea is that it's a two-pronged offensive, and Bush can't defend either one of them without big trouble. Excellent idea.

4. If he uses this approach, he gets to get in jabs against the Iraq
war - slam *'s concern for the military - slam *'s efforts at protecting the home front (close bases here, but build there), slam * on job losses (lay offs all over and * wants to close military bases at home that employ thousands of civilians) - slam * about not caring about the vets (closing VA hospitals).

This approach is so multi faceted. I hope his folks read this site.

I emailed them, but who knows if they get it.
