Okay the TRUTH about the Va. campaign-VOLUNTEER!
I went it yesterday morning to drop off the cash from the State Fair and new registrations from Saturday night and one of the young guys who set up and ran the Richmond office told me about this. I said,"Straight up are they bailing on us?" and he said "Oh no way we have everything set up but they can use us elsewhere, we HAVE to win the states we won in 2000 so since everything here is moving smoothly we are leaving it up to the volunteers. 5 paid people are staying here and all the offices are staying open (NoVa, Hampton Roads, Roanoke, Norton (Wise county waaaaaaaaay SW Va.) is doing a lot of good work , Harrisonburg, and Richmond). It is completely still in place but they just decided to use their resources in that way" He didn't seem very happy about it, this was his and the other guy's baby. He also said that when Va. turns they both were going to throw it back in the DNC's face.

This guy was heading to Colorado today. The other guy is already in Wisconsin.

Folks, from everything I have seen personally there are lots of really fired up Dems AND Republicans here.

The latest Mason Dixon poll has Va. W49-Kerry 43 with 1% for Nader (he isn't even on the ballot) and the MOE is 4%, do the math. This doesn't include many of the newly registered voters (today is the deadline)-My wife and I have signed up about 30 ourselves and possibly 20-30+ from the registration fliers I put out.

VOLUNTEER!!!

Seriously, no matter what state you live in -WHAT WILL YOU TELL THE CHILDREN? YOU DID?

Northern Virginia outside the beltway seems about evenly split to me or better. Inside the Beltway is overwhelmingly for Kerry. You mention Wise County, VA. I've been there, actually spent my freshman college year there at Clinch Valley College (which was part of the University of Virginia). I can tell you that the political makeup of that college was largely Democratic. The young Democrats were a heck of a lot more powerful than the young Republicans (who were non-existent) on campus. Granted this was 1976 but I think many of the people who work in coal mines know they are being screwed over my the millionaires, and this pervades opinion. Kerry could make a good appeal to coal-laden Appalachia (West Virginia, Eastern Ohio, Virginia, Kentucky, Western Maryland, South-west Pennsylvania) by pointing out the things that Bush has done to lower wages for the working family.

On edit:
A bout of a throat cold kept me from canvassing this past weekend. The voice is back so I'm going to contact the local office today to do my phone canvassing.

2. The fact that anyone pays any attention to them is huge
I have said from the beginning that ONE visit from Kerry or Edwards could blow this race out of the water. Hell, the images of them in such a rural area could be played all over the South and the Midwest.

Well that probably isn't going to happen but we can still WORK!
