Kitty Kelley's "The Family" #1 NY Times Best Seller
Knocks the Swift Boat Liars out of the top slot for the first time in 6 weeks.

Did anybody enjoy this book as much as I did? A brisk and amusing read that lays this trashcan of dirtbags out in a most delightful way. That Prescott Bush comes off as the most sympathetic of this thoroughly rotten bunch really says a lot.

"So outside of the trading with the Nazis thing, you were just
a Jacob Javits moderate northeast Republican you say?"

1. American Dynasty by Kevin Phillips
I just picked it up. It's a much more serious book, by a formerly conservative author, about how the Bush family has acted as a unit over the years. I skimmed a book called Cronies at B&N that's lighter, but goes into all sorts of scandals tied to the people associated with Bush.

Whatever happened to Fortunate Son? Did that material ever get published in any form?

3. I have about 150 pages left of the book
This book is very well written and except for Sharon Bush coming out and denying she gave Kitty the scoop on Dubya's Camp David coke use (the woman does want to live for Pete's Sake!) not one word has even been rebutted by the Bush Mafia.

Everyone should read Chapter 20 - if they don't have time to read the entire book. Brief synopsis of the dirty dealing to power by Bush41, Neil, Marvin, Jeb, 43, etc. These men were bought and paid for decades ago. No deal too shady, no smear too dirty, no taxpayer they won't screw and it is (was) all about money and power. Their ultimate aphrodisiac to this slimy crew.

7. Fortunate Son
...was pulled by ST Martin's and republished by Soft Skull Press. I've a suggestion for anyone who frequents libraries. Go check the book out, and if they don't have it, ask for it. They'll get it from another library, or order it. When you return it, praise it, loud enough for anyone around you to hear. I have a relative who did this, and four people signed up to get the book, but the librarian said there was someone ahead of them...and after they left, the librarian said that was a white lie, that she was going to read it that night!

11. Bought mine at Borders about 2 years ago
What happened to J. H. Hatfield is a story in itself. Now there is a book that needs to be written. Hatfield's life was destroyed by the Bush family and their accomplices, and nobody has ever come forward to tell the tale.

2. 20/20 had interview with Sharon Bush Friday night-Bush family values-not!
I missed 20/20 Friday night but a friend of mine who saw it was struck the most by Sharon's remarks about GW and Laura never calling her in 23 years and Barbara Sr only wanting to talk to Neil, never to her throughout her long marriage to Neil, and how they condoned Neil's affair with the woman he married after divorcing Sharon.

I have begun reading the book. I enjoyed Kitty's appearance on CSpan where she talked about how at least Prescott had some redeeming qualities in his political career such as standing up against McCarthy but that with each generation the blood has thinned!

5. yeah, I saw that interview
Even posted a notice about in the Media forum to remind others.

I liked the way this program didn't shrink from Neil's sexual adventures overseas. Nailed him dead to rights.

So happy for Kitty that after all the pressure, she's #1!

6. I received a free copy of this book
Edited on Sun Oct-03-04 10:54 AM by BlueNomad
through a pal at RH/Doubleday. I am currently on page 150 and am rather shocked at how well researched and largely "historical" the book is. The media spin on Kelley's book as trash borders on absurd.

I would recommend everyone read it merely for the timeline and the backdrop of politics it provides. The book also gives you great pause about the George Bushes' (both father and son)--their behaviors and temperaments. I see both as incredibly weak human beings full of an anger and stubbornness that comes from feeling that you are "to the manor born" when the truth is if your names were Bubba and Shorty Jones you'd be LUCKY to be working the night shift at 7 Eleven--and I don't mean as managers.

10. Has she been able to ppear on any talk shows to promote her book?
For it to be #1 on the best seller list with so little publicity is really showing how desperate the people are to know the truth about the Bush family.
