Kerry 1, Bush 0, no doubt about it

ANTONIA ZERBISIAS

U.S. President George W. Bush may have been sending "mexed missages" during his debate with Democratic contender John F. Kerry last Thursday night.

But most of the pundits weren't.

Not even the usual Bush cheerleading squad could muster up a feeble 2-4-6-8 for its boy. It had to admit debate defeat — as in da feet in Bush's mouth.

How it must have hurt them to see, just after midnight, the Kerry campaign website (http://www.johnkerry.com) post a series of positive blurbs from the right. It included praise from neoconners Jonah Goldberg ("The Bush campaign miscalculated ..."), Bill Kristol ("Kerry ... was forceful and articulate") and Fox News' Mort Kondracke ("Kerry looked like a commander-in-chief").

<snip>

They didn't give up quite so easily over on http://www.freerepublic.com, the mother of all right-wing websites. It's the one that gave birth to the name "freepers" for all those keyboard cowboys who do battle for the republic by sitting in their basements and e-dumping all over liberals. Thursday night, you could practically hear them crying to their mommies as they realized that Bush was blowing it.
..more..

2. That is just classic.
And finally...someone (besides DUer's) mentioned this:

Most egregiously, after days of dwelling on the debates, building up their importance, telling us they are "defining," "decisive" and "make or break it" events during presidential campaigns, there was CNN on Friday telling us they were no big deal after all.

"Well, by now we've seen the numbers, the major post-debate polls indicating the winner was Senator John Kerry over President Bush, but not to sound flip — or flop, for that matter — so what?" said anchor Miles O'Brien, echoing statements by Wolf Blitzer and Bill Hemmer.

8. Hemmer -- what an appropriate name
Hemming and Hawing like that.

It's great to see an actual news columnist, albeit not in the
US, catching on to the idea that CNN has become part of the
RW echo chamber and is no longer part of the SCLM...!

5. :o)
That article is AWESOME!! I wish I could make sure Chris Matthews read it on air. I still can't get over dipshit Matthews saying that he just didn't see what the others saw directly after it was over. Even Scarborough gave a more honest assessment!!!

I love that one line in the guys article:

...."I pity the fools who have to prep Bush for the next debate. Because they're sure going to have one pissy pupil on their hands.

If he shows up."

6. Ah, sweet schaudenfreude.
I have to admit that I experienced an abnormal level of glee at watching the Freepers run around like cats with gasoline on their assholes.

I got the impression that a lot of them were re-living that experience many of us had as children when we suddenly realized that Santa Claus wasn't real.

I wonder how many of them are lying awake right now, trying to dodge that creeping realization that the President really is an incompetent boob.

Maybe once they come to terms with that realization, they can start working on that whole latent homosexuality thing.

7. Can you imagine what must have been running through Kerry's mind
when he looked over and saw the Chimp making all those silly faces? "How lucky can you get?" He must have inwardly chuckled his way through the debate. The Emperor had no clothes.

12. Humm I was going to check to see if the Freepers were whining tonight
but has anyone else noticed their site seems to be down? I'm hoping that it isn't just me because this would be prime victory for our side if they really did shut down their Freeper site.

14. Naw, as someone posted on another thread,
they're probably just down for maintenance. It's Sunday morning and all the good little Freepers are in church.

17. That site usually gets shut down just before a fundraiser
in an attempt to create withdrawal symptoms and a greater willingness to donate. Without access to the website many individual freepers have a very difficult time validating their overwhelming feelings of hatred. Shuting the site down to increase fundraising is pretty manipulative but probably very effective. Hatred can be lonely.

16. Antonia is a treasure...
She (she is a woman, btw :) ) must be a lurker here, because her stuff is so consistently bang-on with alot of our opinions. I try not to miss any of her colums. We're lucky to have her here in Toronto.

her archives are here, for more fun:
