W vs Gore in 2000 on Cspan
W is just as dumb then as now. How the hell did he get elected?

I also watched the Clinton-Papa Bush-Perot debate before this one. Gawd, we need Bill back.

1. I think Kerry can do very well in this town hall format.

He's good at one-on-one interactions. If he can showcase that ability in the town hall debate, I think it might be a victory for him.

Edit: Thanks for the heads-up on this.

4. He had not sent 1,000's to their death back then.
The stakes are higher now. Bush sent us into war in Iraq and aimed the terrorist bullseye squarelly at American Soldiers and Iraqi citizens. The nation's expectations are much higher now.

Back then people were complacent in both domestic and international conditions. People voted for whoever made them feel good. They assumed that prosparity and international status were a given and the guy in the White House was there only to pardon the Thanksgiving Day turkey. Little did anyone imagine how much of a mess 4 short years could make of our domestic and international stability. No one could have predicted the Patriot Act, rapid deficit growth out of a surplus, disassociation with the Geneva Conventions, a preemptive war, nearly complete withdrawl from the United Nations, a ramping up of new classes of nuclear weapons, handing environmental policy over to coorporate America, treasonous disclosure of CIA opperatives from within the White House itself, removal of Habeus Corpus for American citizens, etc. These are the types of horror stories we were told as children about the Soviet Union. No one could have dreamed this stuff could happen in 4 short years.

8. He didn't
SCOTUS/Katherine Harris/Jeb/Purged Voter Rolls... :nuke:

To suggest Bush won that election is, well, not mindful of truth or history.

7. did you see the question about farming in america?
Bush had nothing to say except he would say over and over in different words that farming is important in america....he looked so goofy then just like now...how in the hell did this guy get even 5 votes in 2000?

9. Saw a bit of it. Bush was actually OK but now he has a record...
and a bad one at that. He can't say what he will do and ignore the damage he has done. Gives Kerry lots of ammunition for the upcoming debate.

10. What Kerry can learn from Gore's performance:
-Gore was very aggressive about cutting in as soon as Bush's time limit was up. If Bush pushes the time limit again, Kerry should let the moderator call Bush on it. It will make Bush look bad, and make Kerry look like the gentleman that he is.

-Watching this, I am now glad that the two candidates will be seated. The walking around may work in the room, but it looks awkward on camera. Gore looked best when he stayed in one spot, or stayed seated. I think the same will be true for Kerry.

-Since it seems they'll both be miked throughout, Kerry should be, as he was in debate #1, very careful about sighs, bitter-sounding chuckles, etc. Bush is vulnerable on this, I don't think he'll be able to contain himself.

-Kerry should make every effort to use this as an opportunity to smile, to connect personally to each of the questioners. Gore looked best when he was responding directly to regular Americans.

11. I also noticed Sr Bush
Ran on a fear platform. In his closing statement he asked: "IF a major event happened like a war in the middle east or something domesticly, who would you want in charge."

They are pathetic. I can't believe half this country can't see through this crap.

12. GOD. If people could just see this, the broken promises of Bush.
Talking about social security, can't wait to get his hands on the surplus. Now it's gone. No social security reform.
