I think Bush's failure last night was a Rove ploy to lower expectations
No one will remember this failure if Bush nails the final debate, and his "expectations" just got a LOT lower.

Rove knows both are true and I think he might have played it that way on purpose.

1. No, Bush is just that dumb
besides the first debate traditionally gets the most viewers and each debate thereafter is seen by fewer people. I doubt Rove told Bush to go out there and act like a total buffoon--what he wants to avoid is the masses seeing the real Bush.

16. Yep, Bush just sucks
Who else is frigging amazed that our great "media" is amazed that they just found out? Chimp boy repeats himself constantly and is a simple minded creep. Such a revelation! It's proof we have nothing but propaganda in this country.

2. When have you ever known Dubya to be able to put two sentences together?
...especially when he's thinking (Ok, you can stop laughing now) on his feet.

3. ahuh...
And to use a sports analogy, this is why all the best NBA teams throw the 3rd quarter - so as to soften up their opponent for the 4th quarter onslaught.

Your theory is nuts! LOL!

6. Not a chance
If Bush was leading in the polls, there wouldn't even BE debates. The only reason for an incumbent to debate is to try to pick up some swing voters.

Bush has lost most of them and is hemmoraging soft-Republicans. No way would Rove want that to happen at this stage of the game.

And surely you don't think he could persuade Bush to "act" dumb and lose deliberatlely? Bush can't even admit he's human and makes mistakes occasionally. Not a chance of it being deliberate. Sorry.

worry about a draft. . . I think we're in good
shape, I really do. And, if not, we'll -- I'll address
the nation

8. No way.
If that was an act Chimpy deserves an Acadamy Award and a shot at appearing in the sequel to "Rainman".

My ghod, the man was incapable of keeping focused on the answer to the question, forming sentences and using them to convey ideas that most humans could undertand.

One could be lead to believe that he suffers from Ausperger's. But he doesn't. I really think he's just cracking under the strain.

9. It's possible
but unlikely. Rove's POA is to never give an inch. I don't think he would've purposefully hobbled * under any circumstance considering how close the race is supposed to be.

Rove's only got so much to work with ya know.

12. I doubt it. Especially since Kerry gets stronger in face to face debates,
not weaker.

If they planned Bush's ignorance then they came up with an abysmal plan.

14. I think it was just a Bush failure
This is not a game, there's no point in surrendering any advantage, even momentarily. Rove would never intentionally put on as bad a show as Bush did last night.

I mean, this is akin to arguing that Kerry deliberately had a bad August so he could once again demonstrate his ability as a "great closer."

Bush failed last night because Bush is a failure. Sometimes, what you see really is what you get.

17. Maybe one of the more profound statements on this board.
"Sometimes, what you see really is what you get."

It really is that simple. The failures of this country over the past 4 years eminate within this administration. With the boy-king calling the shots, is it no surprise our foreign/domestic policies are completely scrambled and our international image has been handicapped by the uninformed arrogance and hubris of the imperial Dimson?

Bush is a national embarassment.

19. There was too much pain on their faces. From Bush on down to the lowest
echelon media whores, dittoheads, freepers and bigots. If Martians came down from space and couldn't understand a word of English or faux Texan, they would have been able to pick the winner from body language. That's what RepuKKKes media whores said before the debate. I haven't heard much about that since the debate. It's clear who the Alpha male is.

15. No way. The "foreign policy" debate was supposed to be *'s trump card.
Well, he played it and was over-trumped. Now he has to face the town hall debate (which the didn't want at all) and the domestic policy debate -- which will be about jobs, outsourcing, environmental issues, tax cuts for the rich, and all the things Bush is hiding from.

The Bush team negotiated for the first debate to be foreign policy because:

1. They perceived it as Bush's strongest subject.
2. Many more people tune in for the first debate.

Rove's strategy backfired. This guy puts his pants on and wipes his ass just like everyone else. This was a blunder to put his man up there with high expectations of being a winner with his plain-spoken, focused rhetoric on the war on terror. But Rove's guy was just a blithering idiot. And everyone saw it.

This wasn't news to you or me. We've seen it over and over. But people who never paid that much attention before are shocked and dismayed. And well they should be.

20. If Rove got Bush to make a fool of himself and lose the first debate
in order to "lower expectations," he's a complete idiot.
