Kerry Won The Coin Toss, Will Receive First Question
I just heard on CBS that Kerry won the coin flip to determine who wants to take the first question. Kerry won the toss and elected to receive it.

Why did Kerry do this?

If he won the coin toss he should have tossed the first question to Bush, so Kerry could follow it up and rebut it.

Am I wrong in that thinking? If you were Kerry, would you want to go before or after Bush?

1. I think this means he gets both the first and last question.

Plus it is always better to go first and get on the offense.

I believe that Kerry gets both the first and last say. If he only gets the opening, then i dont know what he was thinking.

8. But who will report it? Gallup? Time? Newsweek?
HA HA HA. If he comes off like the greatest genius in the history of mankind and even drags Osama on stage with him, they will all say he was pitiful.

6. Kerry's the Man. Have some faith in his gamesmanship, will ya?
Doesn't the debate contract stipulate there will be no follow up? In any event, Kerry is our champion. Relax and enjoy - JK is totally capable, on all levels.

9. This is good: Get out of the starting gate with speed...
IMO, tensions of viewers, pundits and participants will be at their highest at starting bell.

Kerry can get out of the gate quickly, and have a distinct advantage.

12. Great, and I hope it's a question about Kerry, not Bush
There will already be the stunning image of Kerry towering over Bush in stature, then he can set the tone with a decisive presentation of his own agenda. Equal footing and beyond, immediately. In particular, if Kerry has a great flip-flop response that would be an ideal opener.

If it's a question regarding Bush, not nearly as much of a positive unless it's a surprise topic and opportunity for creative brilliance. Otherwise, if it's a standard topic Kerry will probably be on the attack, versus someone who the audience has already made up their minds about, and that won't help his likeability. Plus Bush will no doubt have a canned response he won't screw up, at least not completely.

20. I thought they were supposed to do the coin
toss immediately prior to the debate backstage? I thought I read that in the memo? I'm gonna go back and read it anyway because I want to know what happens if he picks the first question and whether or not he gets to give the final statement.

22. If Kerry gets to make an opening statement first...
he could really take the wind out of Bush's sails.

By pre-emptively striking against Bush's assured talking points attacks, he can defeat Bush in one swoop!

24. Okay dammit I'm going to teach you how to spin
And Democrats that means spin in your own damn favor, dammit.

Kerry won the coin toss, proving and showing that he is a born leader. He is eager and ready to show that he has ideas and a plan to lead this nation out of the darkness that is threatening it from the incompetence and willful blindness of the present administration.

OF course it's good. Have faith and never let them see you waver.

No retreat, no surrender. It's the theme song for a reason.
