CNN: Blitzer trots out Gallup Poll's Frank Newport to spin...
I only caught the last part of this, but it was obvious CNN has gotten a LOT of heat about the BOGUS CNN/Gallup/USA Today poll that has Bush with a 12-point lead over Kerry.

Newport was talking (spinning like a top) trying his best to explain how "party affiliation" is such an extreme 'variable' and that they really have no control over how that changes and they cannot predict when it will change. He waved his finger up and down and showed how it was like a "roller coaster". Of course, he never offered an explanation of how they actually settle on the final figure they use in their final polls, i.e. a 12+% sampling of Rethugs over Dems. In other words, it's simply up to them to factor in whatever they damned well please! He gave NO good explanation. In fact, his rantings just made his bias that more apparent. "We poll, we decide" is about what it came down to.

The disgusting part was how, at the end, Wolf started telling how they got calls from Repub strategists who were not happy when Kerry was ahead and was accusing them of sampling too many Democrats. Now, he says, since Bush is ahead Democrats are complaining that they are sampling too many Republicans. He then went on and made the most brazen statement that he had utmost confidence in the Gallup poll and he would stand by it as the best in the country today. OMG!

So, folks, that's the final word... STOP saying the Gallup poll is bogus! :grr:  :argh:

1. Gallup Is Criticized so They Have Gallup Reps On To Give Their Side
Edited on Wed Sep-29-04 12:05 PM by Beetwasher
and that's that. Where's the balance? Where's the objectivity? Where's the counterpoint? Where are the OTHER NON-Gallup experts to comment?

Whore: "So, Mr. Gallup rep, are your polls biased?"
Gallup: "Nope. No sir, they are not"
Whore: "Well, there you go. We've covered every aspect of this story and Gallup polls are not biased. Good enough for me!"

8. Yeah, and Newport trashed Zogby...
Wolf read a critique John Zogby had written about the biased methodology of the Gallup poll and Newport made some snide remark to the affect that Zogby was completely unreputable and that they didn't pay any attention to what Zogby had to say.

I hope Zogby knows what Newport said about him and comes out swinging. Look out... it's "The War of the Polls"! Hah!

3. Frank Newport is full of it
There's no way 12 percent more Repubs than Dems will vote in November. Dems ALWAYS vote more heavily in presidential elections than mid-term elections and they haven't been outnumbered percentage-wise in the last three presidential elections.

7. The usual "he said she said" Pravda bullshit
Leslie, I know it is pointless to ask a Pravda Whore like you a question and expect anything but the ultimate in toadying dissembling, but aren't there actual numbers to SHOW the sample size when "Kerry was leading"?

I'd ask to see them, you traitorous disgusting, toadying worm, but I am sure you would NEVER allow it.

11. Frank gave no rationale for their Rep overweighting, only scapegoated by
saying Los Angeles Times did it too! LAT was accused of overweighting Democrats in their poll earlier this summer and the Republicans screamed bloody murder about supposed Democratic overweighting.

This does not explain why Gallup used 40% Rep and only 31% Democrats in their latest poll , 9/24-26, of registered voters, upped from their 9/13-15 poll, which weighted Republicans at 38% and Democrats at 33%.

Guess Gallup needed to overweight more, to get the desired Dubya lead going into tomorrow's debates.

And, Wolfie, of course, mentioned only the 40% Rep percentage, and not the accompanying 31% Democratic percentage!

Gallup has effectively been outed, and they refuse to fess up. Their credibility is shot.

17. Let Gallup use their flawed weightings
When Kerry kicks shrubs ass they will look like the right-wing, repuke, assholes they are!!!

Weighting the poll to reflect 41% of the electorate is going to be republican is absolutely ludicrous! I believe the average percentage from the last few elections was 34% republican to 37% Dem. I can't wait for the repukes to wake up on November 3rd crying like the big fat babies they are when Kerry wins in a landslide!!
