Networks to ignore debate camera rules
Networks to ignore debate camera rules

By DAVID BAUDER, AP Television Writer

Last Updated: September 28, 2004, 04:32:00 PM PDT

NEW YORK (AP) - With the first presidential debate Thursday, television networks plan to ignore an attempt by the Bush and Kerry campaigns to stage-manage the event by dictating which camera shots they can or cannot use.

The networks object to a provision in the debate agreement between the two candidates that says they cannot show a reaction shot of Democrat John Kerry when President Bush is speaking, or vice versa.

"The campaigns have agreed to this," said Princell Hair, CNN general manager. "We haven't.

"We have access to these cameras and we're going to - as we would with any news event - decide which is the best way to broadcast this," he said. "A producer in the booth will make those determinations, not some people in the campaign."

3. It is gettinjg ridiculous
They want to show Kerry in a reaction that is not complimentary and show Bush in a reaction that is just perfectly the good old boy you would like to have a beer with grinning while Kerry is saying something that refutes his stupidity.

This whole thing is getting absurd.

6. And FUX gets to control them for all the networks...............
all networks have agreed to use FUX's TV cameras and shots during the debates. Gee, I wonder who'll they'll show in embarrasing moments, I wonder who'll get the better lighting, the better angles? I wonder?
