WHY don't Dems. "cry fraud" about Gallup Polls -so people DISTRUST polls
You would think it would be an easy thing to share on the skewed polling data they use...and the media runs with it.

This is fraud...there is plenty of enough data to suggest it's bias.

Why don't the Dems make this a really big issue on TV or in interviews?

1. The problem is,
that people have already learned to distrust polls. Keep in mind, that one of the themes after the 2000 election was that the polling was wrong, especially the Florida exit polling. No, those pollster had it right.

One enormous problem is that there are lots of different polls, some of which are better than others. The more we see polls showing different results, the more people are suspicious. Unfortunately, that suspicion means that people will wind up knowing they can't trust the polls, and so they'll accept whatever "results" are announced.

3. but.... to show the RW bias that is so clear in the media...this is a
no-brainer....the repugs and Gallup would look like assholes

and you have CNN quoting Gallup Polls daily and then people

would not trust CNN....we need to expose the media as well for always

pushing these polls

2. They would sound like crybabies

and Rove would eat that up.

It is a problem. Maybe we just both live in more urban and sophisticated areas that are too streetsmart for the likes of b*sh. The rural areas really do adore him. When you are in rural areas, you sometimes begin to wonder if anyone likes Kerry! In NYC or LA it is unusual to find a large cadre of staunch b*sh supporters unless you go to the suburbs.

4. I think that Gallup poll is a story in itself.
Someone should do an investigative piece on how that poll (and all polls) turn the election. Go through the entire process, from how the call list was made up, the party affiliation of the boiler room and polling organization, and how the data was reported on the news by talking heads as if it was gospel.

5. Which RW, state owned network
would air the skewed data? Which one would expose themself as White House shills? The skewed data will never see the light of day on ANY network. :(

6. We'll just run the story through the internet...
The scoop regarding the bin Ladens flying through American air space days after 9/11 only took three years to get to the mainstream. If we start now, we should have the Gallup story in the mainstream before the next election (That's 2008) :eyes:

9. The problem with the internet
is that it simply doesn't reach enough people. As you pointed out, it would take too long. And even the bin Ladens flying after 9/11 still isn't widely known.

And it's not just rural people who don't see what's really going on. I'm going door-to-door while campaigning for office, and I'm surprised at the number of older people who have a rather touching, albeit naive, faith that W is doing the best job he can and that he needs to be re-elected.

14. Gallup has to be wrong in 2004
before you start going after them for skewing things in 2008.

I bet they will be within the MoE in their final poll.

11. The media should be policing themselves
Kerry would, as pointed out, sound like a crybaby. When someone does question the media outlets that sponsor these bogus polls they have no answer. When that smarmy bitch Judy Woodruff was asked about it on the Conservative News Network she downright spluttered, sort of like her hero.

13. We can't do that because a Gallup poll showed 87% of all Americans would
be mad at us if we complained too loudly.

15. "Gallup, who is a devout evangelical Christian.."
(Please forgive this double post. Different thread, different title.)

MoveOn.Org has a full page ad in the NYT today on Page A5

It's titled "Gallup-ing To The Right".

Sorry I can't find a link to it. There's a donkey chasing an elephant and it reads, "Why does America's Top Pollster Keep Getting It Wrong?"

Half way through it says, "This is more than just a numbers game. Poll results profoundly affect a campaign's news coverage as well as the public's perception of the candidates."
...

"The public would be better served if journalists asked some tough questions, beginning with the Gallup Organization, which had been asked to select the audience for the Bush-Kerry 'town meeting' debate on October 8."
...

The last three paragraphs read:

"George Gallup Jr., son of the poll's founder, was the longtime head of the company and now directs its non-profit research center. Why hasn't he pushed for an update of the company's likely voter modeling, which his own father pioneered in the 1950's?"

"Gallup, who is a devout evangelical Christian, has been quoted as calling his polling 'a kind of ministry.' And a few months ago, he said 'the most profound purpose of polls is to see how people are responding to God.'"

"We thought the purpose is to faithfully and factually report public opinion."

16. Because...
we don't want Shrub declaring martial law. In all honesty, I want the polls to show he's ahead, so he won't get the idea to "stage" a terrorist attack to declare martial law. He's amended our Constitution to allow that now. I really want the polls to show him ahead so he won't do it. Martial Law = end of our Constitution = Military/Police state and possibly civil war.

I think the polls are doing their job. I want the smirk to think he's winning so we can give him a big November surprise.
