When I look at the past few years of presidential elections--it is obvious that the American people have become tired of incumbents who do not perform. We kick out incumbents that we do not like at a high rate. In looking at the last 5 elections (the past 30 years) where an incumbent president has run--3/5 times that incumbent has been defeated. This shows that we have very little patience for non-performers in the top office--and that means that W is toast and history is on our side.
The last election with an incumbent president---1996--Clinton--he was doing a good job and was reelected.
previous incumbent pres--1992---George HW Bush--poor job--OUT OF OFFICE--1 termer.
Before him--Ronald Reagan--1984--mixed job performance---relected.
Before him---Carter--1980--lots of people unhappy with his job performance (not me)--1 termer.
Before him--Ford--1976---People very unhappy with job performance--defeated.
