REASON # 2,100 to Keep Your Butts Out of Walmart
Wal-Mart ends anti-Semitic book sale

No. 1 retailer agrees to take tract off online market after complaints from Jewish leaders.
September 24, 2004: 8:46 AM EDT

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Bowing to a barrage of complaints from Jewish groups, retail leader Wal-Mart Inc. has stopped selling "The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion," an infamous anti-Semitic tract long exposed as fake.

Jewish leaders had complained that the book, which purports to tell of an international Jewish conspiracy to take over the world, was being sold on Walmart.com with a description that suggested it might be genuine instead of a forgery concocted by the Czarist secret police in the early 20th Century.

The description, now withdrawn from the Wal-Mart (WMT: Research, Estimates) Web site, said, "If ... The Protocols are genuine (which can never be proven conclusively), it might cause some of us to keep a wary eye on world affairs. We neither support nor deny its message. We simply make it available for those who wish a copy."

2. Sad statement about the current state of our country
I probably disagree with most of that book based on the description, but I believe in free speech and this is bullshit.

4. Walmart is a private business and can sell what it wants---I wonder
if any public libraries have this book?

8. WalMart is no champion of free speech.
WalMart has the right to sell the book,
but they were extremely negligent at best
to post a description of the book that
reeked of anti-Semitism.

From the web site:
"If ... The Protocols are genuine (which can never be proven
conclusively), it might cause some of us to keep a wary eye
on world affairs."

Somebody there actually believes this shit.

WalMart routinely refuses to sell books, magazines,
video, and games that it considers offensive.
Either the WalMart censors were asleep on the job
or they don't find bigotry as offensive as sex.

... maybe a threatened boycott--Then the ball is in the almighty Walmart court and I am certain they made that move like all the ones they make--on the basis of how they think it will affect sales...if they did not think it would have a negative impact, I'm certain they would have told the leaders to f-- off.

10. No copies of Clinton's book at Wal Mart where I live
I went to buy Clinton's book and Wal Mart is the only store within 30 miles. Not on the shelf. Many copies of SB liars, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, MM is a stupid white man...etc. etc. etc.

11. I shop at Walmart because I save money there.
The quality of merchandise is good, and is priced below most other stores. Since I am retired and depending mostly on Social Security, I cannot afford to shop at stores that charge more, just to make a political statement. Sorry, but that's how it is for many of us.
