He's actually challenging Herr Rummy on the subject of strain on our forces because of Iraq, potential problems with N. Korea, Iran etc.

It's on C-Span now.

25. McCain's support of Bush seems tied to the war in Iraq; even then he
Edited on Thu Sep-23-04 03:19 PM by flpoljunkie
has many criticisms of the way Bush has handled the war in Iraq. What does this tell you about McCain? Last night McCain basically said Bush deserves to be elected in November because of the cache of leadership he acquired when he stood on that pile of debris and yelled into the bull horn.

I find this totally without any sound reasoning. Bush retains his margin on terrorism in the polls only because the media drooled over Bush on the debris and annointed him "our dear leader." The media has failed miserabily in their job to speak truth to power. They are gutless corporate toadies who lack both the will and the integrity to do their job.

13. Steal at will
Copy the pic itself, or right click and use my link. I think photobucket can take it.

It was in an issue of the NYTimes just before the RNC, in the art section. I'll go and find the exact date.

7. Agreed. McCain is the BIGGEST whore of them all because of things
like this. He has the capacity for independent thought, but when he feels he's getting to far away from any chance at 2008, he bends right back over spreads em, lubes em up and prepares to be mounted with a smile and a coke!!

Occasionally, small non-whore word and sentence fragments escape his lips, but when push comes to shove, he puckers up for another smoochy mouthful of Bush-butt.

23. rather than seeing this all as black and white
... can't we entertain the possibility that McCain, Lugar and Hagel are, well, um... being honest? Maybe they aren't real happy with Bush, they support him grudgingly, but want to go on record as disagreeing with him on important issues like Iraq.

This isn't that hard to figure out if you want to take the bold step of accepting this at face value. I know it's hard to do, but sometimes it's necessary to consider the possibility that what you see is what you've got.

Then again, there is that possibility that McCain really is waiting to stab Bush forthrightly, in public, closer to the election, when it'd really be effective. But I don't even allow myself to entertain that as anything but a thousand-to-one longshot.

At least it's what I've used to argue the "better the devil you know" excuse that I've gotten from a few people. That is, you might feel that way about Bush...but what about the people he has chosen to surround himself with and carry out his policies? If you have problems with them, you have to have problems with Bush (as the leader) because he hasn't taken a single one of them to task!

So, McCain's got problems with Rummy, has for quite a while, and yet he still supports Bush. People aren't connecting that the very same cabal that's demonstrated incompetence and almost every turn is part of the re-selection package option in November!

26. McCain is a great man

You guys who are bashing him don't know much about the man. He had his dark spots on his past, but he really has turned himself around and is a fine member of Congress. He would of made a good President as well, 10x better than Bush.

31. McCain's "Honor"
I used to think McCain was pretty fairminded for a Repug. But his unwaivering support of Bush pegs him as a standard Repug who knows that his committee chairmanship depends on the R's keeping the Senate, which may depend on a Bush reelection. So he is a whore for ignoring the sliming Bush did on him in the 2000 primaries. As for
Hardball yesterday, Matthews allowed McCain to mischaracterize Kerry's Iraq position, very subtly, but damning. McCain is no friend, no honor, and Chris Matthews is barely better, when he allows a McCain to pontificate as if he were an impartial observer, instead of a partisan. Shame on Tweety!!

33. I have to agree. McCain really shocked me
by coming out in support of Bush the way that he did. . . If anyone had dared to insult my family the way that Bush did to McCain during the 2000 primaries, I would spit in his face, much less hug him on stage and mug for the cameras with him. It is so disgusting. How can he live with himself and look his family in the face?
