This Weeks NBC/WSJ Poll --- ECONOMY was the #1 issue ....not terror !
Edited on Thu Sep-23-04 05:29 AM by cthrumatrix
The media bias on the recent NBC poll which showed Kerry/Shrub deadlocked had the rankings on many "issues".

Hardball and NBC NEWS "grouped" terror/issues vs economy/healthcare and showed that both were 44%... big deal.

However.... only this morning did I see that the ECONOMY was MORE IMPORTANT than teror 28-23%.

Why is this important....the economy is a nightmare for shrub. The pro bush media again hid the "will of the people"...Tweety didn't come on and say that the economy was #1....they continue to say it's Iraq...which is not "terror"...it's a screwed up war.

Educate voters ...spread the word of this blantant bias. The press is trying to hide the "asshole" from the polls....AGAIN.

VERY Important to note....even with the "free'd" MSNBC web poll...this same question showed economy/healthcare at 56% vs terrorism values at 44%

1. I'm much more concerned
About my job being outsourced than I am about a terrorist blowing up a building I may happen to be in. Also very concerned about no Social Security when it's time to retire, or that the company I have worked for the past 25 years will decide that they aren't going to pay a pension. These are the issues that people I talk to are concerned about.

3. the point is the media is PURPOSELY slanting it to a "supposed" AWOL
strength in freeperland and "single mom" concerns.

Tweety did not go on and say..."OMG, the economy IS the number one issue...bush is in deep shit".

that's my point

people always vote their pocketbooks

5. About voting your pocketbook
My republican dad has said that for years. Every time I visit the folks, I always mention my layoff, how hard it was to even get an interview, how I'm now working a temp job (that has been longer than merely temporary) and have NO BENEFITS OF ANY KIND.

I think that if I remind him enough times it's due to all the outsourcing, without which I'd have gotten snapped a long time ago and stayed in my industry and had bennies, maybe he'll vote for Kerry.

I've also mentioned the articles about how our government has utterly refused to address the issue and has instead been telling us about how outsourcing is "good for the economy". But even after running three companies into the ground, he's never had to wonder if he'll find a job before his unemployment runs out like me and several other people I know.

But yey there are still assholes who say that we can't find jobs because we're shiftless and lazy despite wallpapering the industry with resumes.

If over ten years of experience and tons of industry certifications and customers falling all over themselves to give references isn't enough to get an interview, I feel for the entry level people without these advantages. How are they ever to break in?

Outsource Bush. Vote for Kerry. But then, you knew that.

2. The holidays are fast approaching
people start thinking about disposable income and comparing to years past.

I'm not saying everyone has this luxury--a lot of people think about whether or not they can pay the rent or put food on the table, but this shows that even what's left of the middle class are starting to think "am I better off now than I was four years ago?"

4. "GAP" between "have vs have nots"....is really widening
Gap between haves, have-nots gets wider
Growing disparity more pronounced in recovering economy

The Associated Press
Updated: 10:41 p.m. ET Aug. 16, 2004WASHINGTON - Over two decades, the income gap has steadily increased between the richest Americans, who own homes and stocks and got big tax breaks, and those at the middle and bottom of the pay scale, whose paychecks buy less.

The growing disparity is even more pronounced in this recovering economy. Wages are stagnant and the middle class is shouldering a larger tax burden. Prices for health care, housing, tuition, gas and food have soared.

The wealthiest 20 percent of households in 1973 accounted for 44 percent of total U.S. income, according to the Census Bureau. Their share jumped to 50 percent in 2002, while everyone else’s fell. For the bottom fifth, the share dropped from 4.2 percent to 3.5 percent.

6. In the "flawed gallup Poll" earlier this month .... Economy 32% Top Issue
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/nation/polls/usatodaypolls.htm

terror was @ 28% amongst registered voters

The media "spin" is in high gear.... they want the "terror" to be THE issue....the facts are that it is NOT.

7. I think terror not being the number one issue might be good for Bush.
I'll bet a lot of people place the economy over terror because they are happy with the way (they think) Bush is running the war on terror. That's why I'm glad Kerry is hitting Bush hard right now on Iraq and the fight against terror.

People should be unhappy with the way things are going. Terror and the war should be at least equal with the economy. People know the economy sucks. They need to learn more about what a mess Bush has made of national security.

9. AND...Bush "approval" is down to FORTY-SEVEN
...which I don't even see in the msnbc article.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/afp/20040923/ts_alt_afp/us_vote_poll

snip>
It showed his job approval rating at 47 percent, historically dangerous for presidents seeking re-election. A majority were unhappy with the way he handled the economy and foreign policy; only on fighting terrorism did he rate highly.

10. I agree, but Kerry hammering Bush on Iraq has finally
caused JFK to gain some traction. The media doesnt seem that interested in the economy.
