Shocking journalistic abuse... Wolf Blitzer on Jack Quinn
Edited on Wed Sep-22-04 05:07 PM by Flubadubya
I have seen Blitzer go to some extraordinary lengths to show his bias and lack of journalistic integrity, but today's misadventure was downright astounding!

Wolf was interviewing Joe DeGenova and Jack Quinn. DeGenova was acting completely outraged and showing moral indignation over what Blitzer had already dubbed "the scandal that is rocking CBS". :puke: Extreme hyperbolic rhetoric was spewing from Joe DeGenova's mouth, but Wolfie just smiled let him rattle on. When it came Jack's turn Jack asked the simple question, "Where was all this outrage and indignation when the president's SOTU speech included forged documents?"

Blitzer flatly went ballistic on Jack. He flew into a literal fit. He roared at him, "We are not going to talk about that issue. We are going to keep the discussion to this narrow topic." Quinn, I believe, was truly stunned at the belligerence of Wolf's response, and tried to reply that it was pertinent to the topic, but Wolf just kept screaming him down. Jack actually tried to broach the subject a couple more times, but each time met with the same belicose blast from Blitzer. He didn't just step on Jack's efforts to make an appropriate and pertinent point, he summarily stomped Jack into the ground.

Folks, this was truly a frightening bit of fascistic, jack-booted thuggery on the part of our "media". I still haven't gotten my jaw up off the floor yet. Just incredible! :wow:

2. Yep
I just posted about this in another thread. Today was the first time in weeks that I've watched CNN. Earlier, Woodruff was talking about the Swift Vet group and the Texans for Truth. I'm not sure what her point was about the Swift Vet group, but when she got around to the Texans for Truth she said "so-called Texans for Truth". Hmmm.

Wolf was amazingly disgusting. Jack tried to bring up Iraq and Wolf did the same thing.

8. Wolf will not go away...
and I will not act the ostrich over it. Even if I quit watching, Blitzer will go on influencing millions of people in this country. With the sorry state of affairs that our media is in at this point in our history, I believe it would be reprehensible to turn out backs on it and pretend it is not happening. We NEED to be aware of how the media is flushing our country down the toilet.

Cancer never goes away on its own!

25. Ok Millions DO NOT WATCH BLITZER
The Daily Show, Letterman, and Leno get ten times the ratings of Blitzer.

DUers are news junkies, we watch the news, if you paid attention to surveys taken over the last few years more Americans get their news from late night talk shows.

CNN in total gets maybe a million on a good day.

Why are you so worried? Turn that shit off and give them one less viewer.

I've been avoiding CNN lately because I get too upset watching it.

It used to be a good news station but now it sucks. I think everybody here knows how bad the mainstream media is and make up their own minds about the content.

A lot of us here write letters, e-mail or snail mail, and let the media know how biased we think they are. It's going to take a while to change things because the Republicans have had control of Congress for the past ten years and the media is bought and paid for by large corporations.

When Kerry is elected I believe he will enforce or enact the Fairness Doctrine -- but not without a fight from the neocons and the religious right.

It's going to be an uphill battle but I think we can make some positive changes.

40. Not Fairness Doctrine...DeRegulation
Two different issues. DeReg allowed the large corporates to consume all the radio, TV & cable systems they have today, and they'd like even more. That trend was somewhat stemmed last year when the FCC was over-ruled by a court on yet even more dereg.

The 1996 Telcom Bill, which Bill Clinton not only signed, but endorsed, needs to be revisited and there's many who'd like to see that happen, but to date, John Kerry hasn't gone on record as being one of those.

And forget about the fairness doctrine. It died 20 years ago and never really worked then. All it did was force a broadcaster to offer equal time under a bunch of conveluted criteria that didn't cover much news programming...thus you'd still have CNNservative and Faux with their right wing bias and little to no Democratic viewpoint.

I could go into suggestions on how to turn things around, but past attempts meant wasted typing. Good luck to you all

9. Wolf was defending Faux news today
Edited on Wed Sep-22-04 05:16 PM by Lucille
Claiming that "to their credit" it was Fox that first ran with the story of Bush's DUI. He brought this up by way of contrast with CBS' supposed biased behavior.

Actually, they didn't--it was a local Fox affiliate that broke the story, which was then picked up by the majors, including Fox News, which focused its attention on the fact that a "democratic operative" unfairly released the information just before the election.

All this has mean wondering. Do you think Wolfie is negotiating w/Fox for a new position?

jock strap. He likes to denigrate them every chance he gets because he knows CBS has REAL journalists, and him and his pseudo-news network don't have a "journalist" on staff, and he's jealous as hell knowing he'll never be good enough to work for a REAL news organization.

That was one of the scariest things I have ever seen on a 'news' program. You described it just like it happened. Then Blitzer went on to SPECULATE that the Democrats were complicit with this and it is of the Utmost Importance that we get to the bottom of this.(paraphrasing) Fucking Outrageous. I wish Quinn had walked off.

21. And did you see the Roger Stone interview?...
At the end of the discussion there was mention of the NY Times article cited by McAuliffe and Blitzer came right out and said it was "not true". Those were his last words on the subject. He flat out said the article was not true, thus supporting Stone and casting another disparaging remark on a competing news source.

Quinn is my congressman. Yeah, he's a republican, but you can't be a wing-nut repug and elected in this part of the state. Glad to see him point out Plame and the STOU forgeries.

It's too bad he's retiring, he's actually been a decent representative for the area. But, that means one more repub seat is up for grabs.

48. CNN Sucks!
I tuned in Aaron Brown for the first time in months just as a lark. Guess what the third story was: CBS blablabla. These guys are total idiots. Just remember, Wolfie, Aaron, Paula, etc. are all on life supports. This business, as a stand-alone or a subsidiary, is NOT VIABLE...too little revenue, to many expenses (the worst of which are the overpaid, blow dried, blowhards pretending to be journalists).

Here is my comment to Aaron:
-----------------------
Dear Mr. Brown: I decided to watch your show after some time. The mention of yet another CBS story reminded me why I had stopped watching in the first place. You are not only wasting our time, you are doing what the rest of CNN has done to plummet the ratings to an all time low. CNN can't be viable as a business due to the ratings dive. When will you guys wake up and stop pissing off over 1/2 of your audience with the 'white noise' and other mis-leads that divert the news from the truth: the war is a disaster, the president is a disaster, the economy is teetering on disaster. When they finally bury CNN, the total failure to cover real news will be to blame.

The CNN Whore was the biggest cheerleader for the Iraq War in the American media. Of course he's not going to allow any discussion of any subject that casts doubt on the very basis for the bloodletting that he so dearly cherishes.
