Should Kerry do more to keep the Hispanic vote?
Martin Chavez, the mayor of Albuquerque was on 770 KKOB Radio today and it was brought up that Chavez (a Democrat) had never received even a phone call from John Kerry. Remember that Albuquerque is the largest city in New Mexico which is extremely close in the polls. Kerry appearing with guys like Chavez and Richardson on a National scene more would help out this image.

I have heard over and over how Bush is going after the Hispanic vote and it does not seem like Kerry has done enough to show he wants to keep the Hispanic vote. Now, considering that this is such a huge block that is growing by leaps and bounds in several of the battle ground states Kerry should be putting Hispanics close to the top of his priority list.

Nevada and Colorado are in play this year partly because of the huge increase in Hispanic voters. Gore won New Mexico by only a few hundred votes last time so this is extremely important. Also Hispanics are moving into states like Ohio, Missouri and Iowa as well.

Am I the only one who thinks Kerry needs to do more to keep the Hispanic vote? As an Anglo person am I missing what Kerry is doing?

What more could Kerry do to keep and bring out the Hispanic vote?

2. He was in AZ today, I heard someone whining about that two days ago.
He can not be every where at once. Some people just love to whine.

4. Perception is what's important and if the perception is that Kerry
is not doing enough then perhaps he should step up this effort. If this is the second post saying this then perhaps more does need to be done. I see nothing wrong with playing it safe and doing everything he can, thats just being smart.

6. I think my point was Kerry was there today so he's aware. I still say
there is always going to be some who are unhappy or who are not Dems but shills. I think Kerry and co. have it covered is all.

3. Hey I'm Hispanic and never got a call from Kerry either!
Where's that GOP enrollment form!

Kerry's come a loooooooong way since NCLR (!!!) chastized him for not having a somewhat credible Hispanic reparté among his staff.

Kerry's doing just fine among Hispanics: as it happens, they (we) are being screwed just as much as the "average" middle and lower middle class Americans.

The issues are well known: health care, economy, education (especially that!) and social security.

Kerry's doing great there - and as for canvassing: come take a look around here in Northern NV. We're running our asses off, looking for unregistered Hispanics and making sure they understand why Bush's lies this time can't be taken in the stride.

And it's resonating.

I know that in Southern NV (Las Vegas) things are even better.

Don't waste your time "hunting" Kerry, amigo: it's up to you and me to talk with our hermanas and hermanos and convince them to vote in our common interest.

5. and the issues that are important to Latinos are often the same ones
that are important to the rest of Americans.

edwards was speaking to a latino audience in southern california a few months ago and it focused a lot of immigration issues, but while the speech was good overall the people said they would have liked to hear about things such as environment, education, and other issues that aren't really "ethnic specific".

9. exactly personally I HATE when people bitch that we need to differentiate
between different cultural and racial groups. I'm also Hispanic, and the same problems that are affecting all middle class whites, blacks, ect, is affecting me as well.

When Kerry addresses these issues he is addressing ALL of us, he doesn't need to dance the Macarena for me to get my vote.
