Rooney'd rather CBS fessed up
Not sure why Rooney didn't express himself in a call to Rather rather than go public with this. The truth will out whether they're real or whether they're fake. No need to feed the monster just to hear oneself talk.

CBS curmudgeon Andy Rooney indicated yesterday he believes the controversial documents on President Bush's National Guard service are fake and said it could cost Dan Rather down the road.

"I'm surprised at their reluctance to concede they're wrong," Rooney said, referring to CBS brass.

Despite praising Rather as "a good, honest newsman," Rooney added, "I'm unsure if they're whistling in the dark instead of apologizing."

The flap over the documents has rocked CBS News, has Republicans calling for Rather's head and has people questioning the credibility of Rather instead of Bush.

2. Rooneys opinions just flat don't matter.
His only qualification is that he has a louder voice, not a keener mind.

4. Time to ease out Rooney, seems he forget who pays his salary
Edited on Fri Sep-17-04 09:34 AM by candy331
or maybe he does know who pays it. Rooney himself has been raked over the coals and egg on his face a few times and meowed like a pussy cat in retraction, seems he could have a little loyalty here but maybe he does to whom is the question?

11. What's more important?
Edited on Fri Sep-17-04 09:53 AM by TexasUnderground
Loyalty or integrity?

If you had to chose between the two, which would you pick?

The amount of "shut your mouth" and "know your place" stuff is a bit disconcerting.

7. Forgeries? Rewritten notes of exact sentiment? Typed by another person
other than secretary? Were the originals harder on Bush and these replacements meant to downplay the seriousness of Bush's problems?

We don't really know that, do we?

What we DO know is that Burkett's story hasn't changed in over 4 years, while the Bushies' have changed their story several times.

And if the Bushies DIDN'T have Bush's records scrubbed, then why are there so many missing records?

13. So you agree that Bush has no credibility for using FORGED NIGER DOCUMENTS
Edited on Fri Sep-17-04 10:48 AM by blm

to take this nation to war?

Bush's credibility is killed on the memos because he cannot produce the paperwork from that time he was grounded. Why? So far, there is only ONE consistent explanation and that is Burkett's charge they were scrubbed by Bushies.

9. I fail to see how the CBS memos
can hurt Kerry. He had nothing to do with their appearance or content.

15. In a spirit of fair play-
Andy Rooney is paid to express his opinion. Just because his opinion differs from mine, or is irrelevant, is not a particularly valid reason for his removal.
In this case, my ox is being gored and I take exception to his insinuations, so I would prefer he go take a flying leap, but I'm not his boss and don't pay him.

His boss is directly responsible for his nattering and is the one who must be held responsible.

Let's all go to Mars and set up a society where everything is the way we want it and tigers are all de-clawed.

(Oh the buzzin of the bees
in the cigarette trees, near the soda water fountain,
And the redbird sings at the lemonade springs,
on the big rock-candy mountain.)

(with apologies to whomever)

16. And the cannibalism continues
Andy Rooney is the most outspoken liberal voice on any network news or public affairs show and has done some really admirable hand-to-hand combat with Republicans assholes these last years, particularly on matters of Republican claims to ownership of the military and patriotism.

So by all means, let's trash him. Yah, fuck you Andy!
